Day 3: Connection/Charm
LOTB: Spirit World Remnant AU
Ships: Balance x Spirit (Possible if you want, please say if you do because I think it could work for this AU)
pain and burning, in a way this whole AU just states death
-------
Pain washes over me, even more excruciating than when waking up to Dest being dead. I think Spirit might have felt it too because of how his eyes widened as he glanced at me. I feel my legs almost give out as it just gets worse, my body feeling like it's getting burned by a thousand suns.
Spirit rushes over to me as my legs finally give up despite my best efforts, almost causing us both to fall onto where Dest's soul had just faded away. I try not to let out a scream so as not to alarm the others, and at the same time not feeling like I would be able to make any sounds other than one.
I think I hear the other Balancers asking if I'm alright, but their voices sound far away. Am I shaking? I can't tell, everything seems blurred anyways. What's happening... Why does is feel like my feathers are on fire...
Finally I manage to choke out some words, "S-Spirit... go check the Spirit world.." Unbalance seems to realize that something is happening with my connection to the Spirit World, so he hurries over to support me so Spirit can go.
Soon after Spirit leaves, Unbalance helps me get to where I'm sitting on the ground. Holding my hand in front of my face shows that I almost seem to be disappearing in a glitch-like style. That's probably where the pa- "AGH-"
The burning sensation seems to intensify, feeling more like lava at this point. I would probably be crying right now if my mostly solid body would let me. In contrast to my body, my eyes feel mildly warm, not at all like the searing heat pulsing through everything else, however still much warmer than the usual icy cold.
I think Unbalance positioned me so I was laying on the stone-? If he did, then something is at least cool compared to- everything. Oh- it s-seems Spirit might be back... I think as a small barrage of light and thunder rains down a few blocks away from us. Yup, Spirit's back..
As he runs over, through the blurriness I notice a small blue pendant or something in his hand that seems to give off an unworldly glow. A glow that sooths most of the burning when he attaches it to a string and ties it around my neck, provoking a sigh of relief from me.
I just lay there for a moment soaking up the coolness of the stone beneath me, my wings splayed out. "Thank Origin," I breathe out after a couple moments. "It felt like my wings and halo was melting!" These words earn more concerned looks from the rest of my team, who had been whispering to each other about what was happening to me, and what to do next.
"Well..." Spirit begins, drawing the attention of everyone for a few moments. "Your connection to the Spirit World was cut off because um... we mayyy have strained the connection some with the amount of revives during the fight-" He continues, lowering his voice so that only me and Unbalance can hear him clearly.
"...So basically, the connection is almost terminated...?" I ask slowly, which he nods to. "So how did that thing stop me from... whatever that was?" It was just a blue charm, how does it have that power? I sit up as he gets ready to respond.
Spirit basically jerks to help me, before seeing that I was okay on my own. "I explained to the Guardian what seemed to be happening, and he told me to give you this charm as a necklace. He wasn't sure if it would help or not, but it seems like it has!" He hesitates before adding, "I believe it's infused with the remaining energy of a Blue Steve with soul powers, extracted right before he passed on. I would assume it is only created for rare cases like this- like yours."
Letting out a tortured sigh, I get up from the nice, cool stone. Turning towards my frie- team, I call them over. "We should probably go tell the Elder's Village about- well," I fiddle with my almost completely solid hands. "We should tell them about Dest's death and how he really was, so get ready for a teleport."
As I ready myself to teleport my team of about 18, I glance at Spirit. A tired smile forces itself onto my face as he has his concerned gazed fixed on me. The severed connection is going to be a problem for a while, I can already tell. Hopefully this Charm is going to be able to keep me going until it's fixed, I really don't want to fade away because of my almost curse-like gift.
Thank you for saving me Spirit and Guardian.
