Nya gasped. "The bounty!" She shouted, pointing to the left.

Everyone turned to look.

Nya grabbed Lloyd harshly by the arm and beckoned for everyone to follow. She broke into a run, and soon they were all sprinting past the enemy towards the end of the platform. Surprised shouts filled the air as the army fumbled to get their guns ready. "Shoot them, you idiots!" The doctors enraged cries filled the air.

This was NOT well calculated and thought out.

They started shooting.

"This is a terrible plan!" Lloyd shrieked. Ducking and swerving in an attempt to dodge the darts.

The metal platforms edge was getting closer and closer. What was Nya's plan?

"Jump!" The water Ninja yelled. They all tumbled into the sky, the air whizzing past their faces.

She summoned her elemental dragon, its scales turquoise and constantly changing shape, like water. Its eyes glowed intelligently, and with a roar it soar into the sky.

Kai grinned, watching his sister fly up into the sky. I guess this is a plan- not a good one, but a plan nonetheless. But his happiness soon turned to fear. He didn't know if he could willpower his creature into existence.
He didn't know if he had the energy. He hadn't used his powers for about a week, and the vengestone had been on his wrists for so long- and he hadn't eaten in ages-

Shutting his eyes tightly, he tried to concentrate and create his dragon. Don't think about how you're plummeting to your certain death. He told himself grimly.

Opening his eyes, he looked in dismay at the half formed dragon that fell next to him. Its two hind legs flailed uselessly in the air, one wing flapping and a bit of the front paw squirming ahead. Kai stared in dismay at the absurd scene.

He couldn't form his elemental dragon.

He didn't have enough energy.

That's when real panic set in. He whipped around and looked up just as Zane's icy dragon flew into the air. He let out a scream as the ground became bigger, the cracked floor becoming more detailed as he neared it.

"HELP!" He yelped, flailing his limbs uselessly in a futile attempt to slow his fall. Squeezing his eyes shut, Kai braced himself for impact.

He was going to die.
He was going to die, he was going to-

Sharp claws grabbed his shoulders and he gasped in relief. Kai didn't even care that the talons were piercing his skin, he was just glad that he wasn't falling anymore. He didn't think he'd ever been so grateful to see his sister's face.

She stared down at him worriedly. "Are you ok?" He nodded shakily. The dragon hoisted him onto its back, and he grabbed Nya's shoulders firmly as they flew through the air. He tried to stop himself from shaking.

Kai turned to see Cole's dragon flying beside them, with Jay clinging onto the earth Ninja for dear life.

Whizz-

Darts started flying once more. Kai was sick and tired of the stupid things. Hadn't they got anything else to use?

With a cry of pain, Zane tumbled out of the sky. His dragon had been hit, and with a roar of pain it dissolved midair, leaving the ice ninja plummeting quickly towards the ground. Nya grunted and turned her dragon around as quickly as she could. It dove down, and as they got closer to the flailing nindroid they heard his yelps as the ground neared. "Hang on!" Nya yelled to him as she swooped below. Zane landed harshly on the creature's back and clung to its shimmering scales. "Thank you." He breathed shakily.

They flew up once more, the creatures wings beating harshly against the wind. "The guns are long range." Zane stated weakly. "They have good aim. I was swerving unpredictably but they still managed to hit me. I don't think we will be able to escape without getting-"

Another cry filled the air and they saw a green dragon disappear, leaving a helpless Lloyd wriggling in the sky.

A dirt brown dragon swooped past Kai and raced for the green ninja. Jay shrieked and he dug his fingers into Cole's shoulders. Clinging on like his life depended on it. Which it did. With a grunt, Lloyd landed harshly on the dragons back. He started to slide off, but grabbed Jays outstretched hand and managed to regain his balance.

"I don't know what to do!" Nya's voice crackled through the intercom in Cole's mask. "They have long range weapons, and our dragons are an easy target. We are going to get shot down!"

Cole wanted to yell in frustration. Why couldn't this just be over? Problem after problem just seemed to arise, making it impossible to escape.

"I- I don't know, ok?" Cole snapped. He didn't know what to do. The darts were so close, seemingly getting nearer after each shot. Threatening to destroy his dragon.

Jay felt Lloyds fingers grasp his shoulders and he bit back a cry of pain.

They had to escape. They just had to! He couldn't go back there. He just couldn't. Jay didn't want to. He didn't want to! They'd come so far; they were nearly out of there. Maybe they could make it! Horrible visions replaced his sight as he recalled the evil things done to him and Kai. With a shudder, he glanced back at the army.

"We can't fight back! Our elemental powers aren't long range. The energy will die out before it even reaches them!" Nya's voice became muffled as Jay thought.

The people on the platform were nothing more than little dots now, but still the darts were managing to reach the ninja. And he felt useless. Completely and utterly useless. He couldn't use his dragon, he couldn't shoot back-

...

Or could he?

Everyone else's elemental power wasn't long range. He usually fired lightning out of his fingertips, but what if..?

What if he could fire it from the sky?

We both deserve better. (Ninjago Fanfic)Where stories live. Discover now
