As the stars twinkled overhead, casting a soft glow over the imperial garden, Maomao and Jinshi remained locked in their embrace, the world around them fading into the background. After a moment, they pulled back slightly, their foreheads resting against each other.

“Maomao,” Jinshi said softly, his breath warm against her skin. “You have no idea how much this means to me.”

She smiled, her heart swelling at his words. “It means a lot to me too. I’ve dreamed of traveling and learning about different cultures. But I never imagined I’d have you by my side.”

Jinshi’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he teased, “You mean you didn’t dream of me? I’m heartbroken.”

Maomao laughed, the sound light and carefree. “Well, perhaps you weren’t in my dreams specifically, but I certainly imagined a handsome companion who could keep up with my intellect.”

“Ah, so I am handsome in your imagination?” he replied, feigning a dramatic swoon. “I knew it! You can admit it now; I’ve won your heart!”

Rolling her eyes playfully, Maomao nudged him gently. “Don’t let it go to your head, Lord Jinshi. You still have to prove yourself on this journey.”

“Prove myself?” he echoed, feigning shock. “What more do I need to do? I’ve already captured your heart!”

“Perhaps you should start by proving you can survive a week without your lavish robes,” she countered with a smirk. “Traveling means roughing it a bit.”

Jinshi grinned, his eyes dancing with excitement. “I’ll wear whatever you want me to wear—just promise me you’ll be there to guide me through it all.”

Her heart fluttered at his earnestness. “I promise,” she replied softly. “But you might regret those words when I make you eat strange foods and sleep under the stars.”

“I could never regret anything that involves you,” he said earnestly, his expression turning serious.

Maomao felt her cheeks heat as she met his gaze. “You really mean that?”

“Absolutely,” Jinshi replied, his voice low and sincere. “Every moment spent with you is an adventure in itself. Whether we’re navigating court politics or exploring distant lands, I want to experience it all with you.”

She felt a rush of warmth at his declaration. “You have a way of making even the most mundane moments feel special.”

Jinshi leaned closer, their faces inches apart. “And you have a way of making my heart race like never before.”

Maomao’s breath caught as she searched his eyes for any hint of jest but found only sincerity and affection.

“What if we encounter danger on our travels?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Then we face it together,” he replied firmly, brushing his thumb across her cheek. “I will always protect you, just as you’ve protected so many others.”

His words sent shivers down her spine. The warmth of his touch lingered long after he withdrew his hand.

“What if we get lost?” she pressed playfully, wanting to keep the light-hearted banter going.

“Then we’ll make our own map,” Jinshi said with a confident grin. “And if we find ourselves in an unfamiliar place, we’ll discover its secrets together.”

“And what if we run out of supplies?” Maomao challenged, crossing her arms.

“Then we’ll forage for herbs and learn from local healers,” he replied without missing a beat. “I’m sure they’d be eager to share their knowledge with the great Maomao!”

She laughed again, feeling lighter than air. "You really think so highly of me."

“Because it’s true,” he said earnestly. "Your knowledge is vast and your skills unmatched. You inspire me every day."

Maomao felt her heart swell at his praise but quickly masked her vulnerability with humor. "Just remember that if we run out of food, I'm not sharing my rations."

Jinshi chuckled softly before becoming serious again. "In all honesty, Maomao—this journey is more than just travel for me. It’s about building our future together."

Her heart raced at the implication behind his words. "Our future?"

“Yes,” he affirmed, taking her hands once more and looking deeply into her eyes. “I want us to explore not just the world around us but also what we can create together—our dreams and aspirations intertwined.”

A wave of emotion washed over Maomao as she absorbed his words. "That sounds... beautiful," she said softly.

“And I want to be there for every step,” Jinshi continued passionately. “To support you as you grow and learn and to share my own experiences with you.”

“I’ve never had anyone believe in me like this before,” she admitted quietly.

“I believe in you because I see who you truly are—a brilliant woman capable of anything she sets her mind to,” he replied earnestly.

Maomao felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes as she realized how much Jinshi’s faith in her meant. “Thank you for seeing me that way.”

He leaned closer again, their lips almost touching as he whispered, “Thank you for being exactly who you are—a light in my life that I never knew I needed until now.”

With that gentle confession hanging between them like a delicate thread, Maomao felt overwhelmed by emotion and desire. The moment stretched on until she finally closed the distance between them.

Their lips met softly at first, testing the waters of this new territory they had entered together—a kiss filled with promise and warmth that deepened as they surrendered to the connection they shared.

When they finally pulled apart, both breathless and wide-eyed with wonder at what had just transpired, Maomao couldn’t help but smile brightly.

“I think this journey is going to be quite extraordinary,” she said teasingly.

Jinshi grinned back at her mischievously. “With us leading the way? It’s bound to be legendary.”

As they sat beneath the plum tree—their hearts full and spirits soaring—Maomao knew that whatever challenges lay ahead on their adventure would pale in comparison to the love they had found in each other.

And so they spent the rest of the evening sharing dreams and plans for their journey ahead—two souls intertwined by fate and love, ready to explore not just distant lands but also the depths of their hearts together.
