—————AUTHOR's POV:_____
Andrea Yeldiz moved like a shadow through the training facility, her breath steady, movements fluid. The dim lights flickered overhead as her eyes scanned the large room. She'd memorized every inch of the place — every beam, every corner. Her mind was razor-sharp, her body in sync with the years of grueling training.Tonight was different, though. Tonight, she wasn't just another assassin honing her skills. She had a mission that could change everything. But deep down, she also felt the tension of something far more personal.
Liam Carter, her mentor and someone she shared an unspoken connection with, stood across the room. His intense gaze followed her every move, analyzing, judging, but there was more in those dark eyes. Andrea could feel it, a magnetic pull that had been growing for years. The way his jaw clenched, the slight narrowing of his eyes—it was more than just professional focus.
"Your footwork is sloppy tonight, Yeldiz," Liam called out, his voice cutting through the air like a knife.
Andrea smirked, already prepared for his criticism. "Then I guess you'll have to fix it," she shot back, her voice dripping with challenge.
Without hesitation, Liam closed the distance between them, his tall frame moving with lethal grace. He was more than just her mentor; he was the one who had seen potential in her when others doubted. He'd molded her into one of the society's most dangerous assassins, yet there were still moments like this where the line between mentor and something more blurred dangerously.
He didn't stop until they were mere inches apart. "Show me," he ordered, his voice lower now, tinged with something else—something that sent a shiver down her spine.
Andrea's muscles coiled, ready for the sparring match that was about to ensue. She wasn't just fighting to prove her skill. She was fighting to stay in control of her emotions, to suppress the heat that always rose when Liam got too close.
They circled each other, tension thick in the air. Andrea struck first, a swift kick aimed at his midsection. He blocked it easily, countering with a series of quick jabs that forced her to move back. Liam was fast, faster than anyone in the society, but Andrea had trained with him long enough to anticipate his next move.
She ducked under his swing and went for a low sweep, but he was ready, catching her ankle with ease. Before she could react, he had her pinned against the mat, his body pressed against hers.
Andrea's breath caught in her throat, her pulse racing as she stared up at him. His face was mere inches from hers, and for a moment, all the tension of the fight drained away, replaced by something far more dangerous. His hand lingered on her wrist, holding her down, but his grip wasn't tight. It was soft, almost hesitant.
"You're distracted," he whispered, his voice husky.
"Am I?" she replied, her heart pounding. She hated how vulnerable she felt under his gaze, how much control he still had over her despite the years she had spent perfecting her craft.
Liam's eyes flicked down to her lips for a fraction of a second before he released her and stepped back, the moment shattering like glass. Andrea pushed herself up, shaking off the lingering feeling of his body against hers.
"I'll be ready for the mission," she said, her voice firmer than she felt inside.
"I hope so," Liam replied, his tone unreadable as he turned away, leaving Andrea alone on the mat, her thoughts spiraling.

The mission wasn't supposed to be easy, but Andrea knew she had to prove herself—especially with Chief Dimitri Volkov watching. Chief Dimitri had taken her in when she was just a child, molding her into the assassin she was today. He had saved her life at the age of three when she had no one else. She was his most trusted, yet there was always a distance, a boundary between them that she never dared cross. He wasn't just a leader, he was like a father to her, though never truly saying the words.
