Author's POV-

Kian sat in the dimly lit training room, the glow of multiple screens illuminating his focused expression.

He was nervously tapping his fingers on the edge of the table, stealing glances at Lila, who was setting up her equipment.

The air was thick with anticipation as this was their first official training together on the same team.

“Alright, team, gather around!” Mason called out, striding into the room with his usual exuberance.

“Let’s see what our new star, Lila, can bring to the table!”

Lila shot Mason a determined look, her competitive spirit ignited.

“I’ll show you all what I’m made of!” she said, her voice confident.

Kian leaned back in his chair, trying to project calmness, but Mason’s teasing grin was too much to handle.

“Just don’t embarrass Kian, okay? He’s already nervous enough!” Mason winked at Lila, making Kian scowl.

“Very funny,” Kian muttered, crossing his arms defensively. “Let’s just get started.”

As they began their training session, Kian and Lila were paired up for a strategy exercise.

They were supposed to work together to devise a winning plan for their next match.

Lila’s analytical mind quickly formulated ideas, and Kian found himself impressed by her insight.

“Okay, what if we approach the objective from the left flank? It’ll give us the element of surprise,” Lila suggested, her eyes bright with enthusiasm.

Kian nodded, trying to concentrate. “Yeah, that could work. But we need to ensure—”

Mason interrupted, feigning a gasp. “Wow, look at them! Kian’s actually listening to Lila. Is this a new world record?”

Sophie chuckled from the sidelines, adding fuel to the fire. “Kian, you should take notes. You might learn a thing or two from her!”

Kian shot them both a glare, though a hint of a smile tugged at his lips. “Very funny, guys. Maybe if you both focused instead of making jokes, we’d actually win something!”

The teasing continued as they ran through drills. Mason couldn’t resist making comments every time Kian and Lila collaborated.

“Come on, Kian! Pass the ball to Lila! I mean, she might actually catch it!” Mason called out, doubling over with laughter.

Kian rolled his eyes but felt warmth creeping into his cheeks. “Shut up, Mason.”

After several rounds of practice, it was time for a break.

Kian pulled Lila aside, hoping to discuss their strategies without the constant interruptions of their teammates.

“Hey, Lila, you were really good out there,” Kian said, leaning against the wall, trying to maintain his cool demeanor. “I think we have a real shot if we stick to the plan.”

“Thanks! I just want to prove that I belong here,” Lila replied, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “But with Mason and Sophie around, it’s hard to keep focused.”

Kian chuckled. “They really enjoy teasing me. But I guess it’s all part of the fun.”

“Part of the fun? More like part of the torture!” Lila laughed, her eyes sparkling.

Suddenly, Mason appeared, eyes twinkling with mischief. “What are you two lovebirds talking about? Should I leave you alone?” He waggled his eyebrows dramatically.

“Shut it, Mason!” Kian barked, though he couldn’t suppress a grin. Lila joined in on the laughter, and for a moment, the teasing didn’t feel so bad.

As they headed back to the training area, Kian felt lighter.

He couldn’t help but steal a glance at Lila, who was discussing strategies with Sophie.

She was fiercely competitive yet endearingly relatable, and he found himself drawn to her spirit
