"Don't you just love football games?" I asked my best friend Samara.
She just looked around and wrinkled her nose at all of the drunk teenagers screaming and cheering as the quarterback effortlessly caught the ball and started running toward the end zone. The crowds cheers got louder as the clock ran down and the buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the game and another win for us. "The only reason you even come to these games is because you want to see Vince. Oh my god Vince Maloley!" Samara tried to mimic all the girls who worshiped the ground he walked on as she pulled me along with her as we made our way out of the crowd and down towards the field.
Vince spotted us and met us at the edge of the field. "Hey Ava, hey Sam." he said as he pulled off his helmet. "I'm having a party at my house right now if you guys wanna come."
"We might be able to stop by." I replied before Sam had the chance to object. "That's great, I gotta get back before coach gets mad, but i hope you can make it." he finished as he turned and headed towards the locker rooms.
"WHAT THE HELL AVA!" Sam started yelling "YOU KNOW THAT I HATE PARTIES!" she finished. "Please Sam?" I begged. "You know I really like him. This could be my chance to finally get him to see me as someone more than just a friend." I said putting on a puppy dog face. "Fine, but we're not staying longer than 2." She sighed as we made our way to the car and back to our apartment.
30 minutes later and we were both dressed and ready to go. I was wearing a gray sweater and light wash skinny jeans with my brand new black leather heels. Sam had on black skinny jeans a white crop top with a black blazer and white heels.
As we pulled up to the enormous house, there were already teenagers passed out and strewn across the front lawn. There were red cups floating in the fountain and toilet paper hanging from the trees. as we entered the house, there were more intoxicated people lining the halls and filling the rooms. some where dancing along to the music and some were preoccupied with the mouths that they seemed to be latched on to. The kitchen was surprisingly empty. Aside from a couple people pouring drinks, it was just me and Sam until Vince and his friends Joey and Hector walked in.
Vince smiled "AVA! SAM! So glad you guys could make it" he slurred as he pulled the both of us into a hug. In doing so he stumbled and fell into Sam and eventually the granite counter top in front of him. As Sam tried to catch herself, her hand slipped and she fell to the ground. Hector turned and stuck his hand out for her to take. When she couldn't steady herself, Hector picked her up bridal style and placed her down on the counter top. Joey went to steady Vince and clean up his now bloody nose.
Hector checked Sam's wrist and ankle."She has a sprained Ankle, she's gonna have to stay off of this foot for a while." He informed. "It Fucking Hurts Ava." she whimpered. "I'm gonna go bandage her up and get her some painkillers." He said as he picked her up again and started walking out of the kitchen and towards the stairs.
Deciding to make the most of this shitty situation, I took a cup from the package and the counter and made a cocktail from some of the random liquor and juice bottles on the counter. With drink in hand, I slid the back door open and stepped out into the huge backyard. It contained a huge pool that had a couple teenagers that were willing to bear the chilly October night. There was a fire pit which was lit and was surrounded by a lot of couples making out and there was a makeshift dance floor which housed only a couple people. Most people stayed inside the house to avoid the cold.
After sitting outside for a while, I decided that I would try to find Sam and see if she wanted to go. I made my way inside and in the direction that hector had gone earlier. Once I had made it up the stairs, I realized that I really had no clue where they went. I decided to just open doors to see If I could find them. The first door housed a coat closet that smelled like it hadn't been opened in years. The next door was locked, but judging by the double doors, it seemed to be Vince's parents room. When I opened the next door, I saw Sam and Hector devouring each other. Sam's blazer and crop top was on the floor of the bedroom, along with Hector's shirt and pants. They hadn't noticed me so I decided to silently close the door and try to find Vince. It took me a while but then I found him making out with none other than a potted plant in what I assumed would usually be the living room.
Deciding that it was probably best to put my plans of making out with Vince aside for the night and enjoy myself, I grabbed another drink and headed to the dance floor. After a few songs I decided that I should probably just go home. We came in Sam's car but our apartment wasn't a far walk. I shot Sam a text.
To Sammmmm: I saw you getting close to Hector ;) I'm gonna head home, see you in the morning.
I put my phone back in my pocket and headed back out the front door towards the front gate. As I stepped out onto the sidewalk, I noticed a dark figure leaning on a shiny black Camaro. He was already staring at me. "Hey lil mama. Need a ride home?" He questioned. As the alcohol clouded my judgement, I caught myself nodding to the mysteriously attractive stranger. "Names Nate. Nate Maloley" He said as he opened the door for me. Nate Maloley, Vince's older brother. "Ava. Ava Santos." I mimicked.
"Put your seat belt on lil mama, its gonna be a long ride." He said chuckling. Something about that sentence sent a shiver down my spine. Nate put the car in drive and took off down the road.
