"god, i'm jumpin' in the deep end, it's more fun to swim and heard the risk is drowning but i'm gonna take it."

— risk by gracie abrams

"oh my god, no way! you actually did it!?" my best friend yumie exclaims.

i nod with a proud little smile. "yup! i put it in his locker yesterday right after school."

"it was time you grew some balls!" she jokes, and i playfully slap her arm. "i'm kidding! do you know if he got them yet?"

"i actually don't know. i guess i'll find out when he comes to class."

"oooh! girl i'm excited!" she says shaking me back and fourth.

speaking of the devil— kurosaki literally comes walking in the classroom looking as perfect as ever after we mention him.

i pretend to read a book as i watch kurosaki head towards his seat, (the one next to mines) through my peripheral vision— so many thoughts rush in my head at how he'll react to the chocolates. will he mention them? thank me for them? will he look at me with a smile or one that says 'i got your chocolates and think you're kinda weird but i'm polite so i won't embarrass you like that' look?

i hate being a chronic overthinker.

kurosaki takes his seat next to me and says, "good morning." to me like every other morning.

good morning. good morning. good morning? i repeat in my head. does it sound different from the other good mornings or is it the same?

i can't tell.

his body language isn't any different— he isn't moving closer or further away from me, he's just there. doing his thing.

yumie kicks the back of my leg, and i turn around to give her a 'what' look.

she motions at kurosaki with a 'what's going on' look, and i shrug and turn back around.

"hey kurosaki, i have a question."

"what is it?" he turns to look at me and i feel my heart beat faster and faster. maybe i should ask in a different way.

"did you see anything interesting in your locker this morning?"

he raises his brows then shakes his head. "just my shoes."

"really? not any chocolates... or a box?"

"nothing at all. also i'm allergic to chocolate."

and my soul leaves my body. here lies y/n, died single at her school desk next to her high school crush.

"why do you ask?" and my soul leaves my body for the second time.

"uhm, i got a box of chocolates this morning in my locker and was wondering if you got one as well!" i lie, obviously.

"ohh, that's nice. you must have lots of admirers." kurosaki smiles, then turns his attention back to whatever he was doing.

'you must have lots of admirers' brings my soul back and i fight back the urge not to freak out because he just complimented me!
