Amelia's POV:
The next morning, I was jolted awake by the sound of Laura practically bouncing off the walls. "Amelia! Wake up! It's makeover time!"
Wait, what? Laura, the eternal sleeper, was waking me up? This was a first. I rubbed my eyes and squinted at her, still half-dazed. "Why so early today? Did you join the morning people club without telling me?"
She laughed, her hazel eyes shining with enthusiasm. "No, but today's special! You have your first day at work! We need to make sure you look absolutely fabulous!"
With that, she leaped out of bed, her energy contagious. I groaned and sat up, ruffling my hair in an attempt to wake up. "A makeover? Seriously? Can't I just slap on some eyeliner and call it a day?"
"Not a chance! You're going to look like a boss lady, Amelia!" Laura exclaimed, pulling me out of bed. "Now, come on! We have makeup to do!"
As I stumbled into the bathroom, I couldn't help but smile at her excitement. I'd never seen anyone so pumped about a makeover, especially at this hour. She dug through her makeup bag, pulling out various shades of eyeshadow, lip gloss, and what felt like an entire palette of products.
"Okay, first things first! We need to work on those eyes!" she declared, expertly applying eyeshadow while I tried not to blink. "A little sparkle here, a little dark shade there—voilà! You'll be irresistible!"
I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and couldn't help but laugh. "Irresistible? I'm not trying to win a beauty contest, you know!"
"Oh, please! You'll need all the charm you can get, especially if Mr. Dexter is anything like I imagine!" she teased, continuing her makeup magic.
As she applied the finishing touches, I started to feel like a new person. Laura stepped back, hands on her hips, and scrutinized her work like a true artist. "There! Now you look ready to take on the world!"
I blinked at my reflection, amazed at the transformation. "Wow, I actually look like I know what I'm doing. I might even fool Mr. Dexter into thinking I'm competent!"
"Exactly!" Laura grinned, giving me a playful shove toward the door. "Now let's get you dressed! The world won't wait for us!"
After slipping into my carefully curated outfit and some daringly high heels, I couldn't help but admire myself one last time. "Okay, I'm feeling good about this!"
"Good! Because you've got this, Amelia!" Laura said, her excitement radiating off her like a beacon. "Now, let's go have breakfast and prepare for the grand adventure!"
As I stepped out the front door, the sunlight hit my face, and I took a deep breath, ready to embrace this new adventure. The whole Lowell family was gathered at the entrance, sending me off with warm smiles and good wishes.
"Good luck, Amelia! You're going to crush it!" Laura said, her eyes sparkling with encouragement as she gave me a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Remember, you're not just a spy; you're a super spy!" she added with a wink, trying to lighten the mood. I chuckled, appreciating her enthusiasm.
Mr. Lowell stepped forward next, wrapping me in a firm hug. "You'll do great. Just remember to keep your eyes and ears open." His voice was reassuring, yet there was an air of seriousness about it that reminded me of the mission ahead.
"Don't forget to have fun too, Amelia," Mrs. Lowell chimed in, pulling me into a gentle embrace. "And if you need anything, you know where to find us."
I nodded, feeling a warmth spread through me. Their support meant the world. "Thank you! I'll make sure to keep you updated. And I promise I'll stay safe!"
