It's late afternoon, and the sun is beginning to dip toward the horizon, casting a soft golden light over the dense forest surrounding Spoons. The air smells faintly of pine, and the trees create long shadows as Darla follows Jakkub down a narrow, winding path.
Darla, in her typical teenage fashion, fidgets nervously with the sleeves of her oversized sweater, her eyes darting between the trees as they walk. Her mind is a whirlpool of confusion, but mostly, she's wondering why Jakkub insisted on bringing her here.
Okay, Darla. He's taking you deep into the forest. This is definitely not a date, right? No way... This is like one of those moments in a supernatural love story where the mysterious love interest reveals a deep, dark secret or shows the heroine something meaningful. Wait... is this where he confesses his love for me? No, no, focus! But also, what if he does?! Blargh, my life is so confusing...
Jakkub walks ahead of her, quiet and brooding as usual, though today there's a hint of something else in his expression. His shoulders are tense, and he glances back at Darla more often than usual, as if checking to make sure she's still following.
Finally, the path opens up to a breathtaking view of a hidden lake, nestled between towering trees. The water is crystal clear, reflecting the sky like glass. The surrounding forest seems untouched by time, a peaceful haven far away from the chaos of everyday life.
Jakkub stops by the edge of the lake, watching as Darla steps closer. Her eyes widen in awe as she takes in the beauty of the place, the sunlight dancing on the water. For a moment, she forgets her cringy internal monologue and just... breathes.
"Wow, Jaku," she says softly, her voice full of genuine wonder. "This place is... zarblam."
Jakkub smiles faintly, his usual stoic expression softening as he watches her. "I thought you might like it. It's... quiet here. Peaceful. I come here when I need to clear my head."
Darla tilts her head, blinking in surprise. "You? Clear your head? You're, like, always so calm and... intense."
Jakkub lets out a low chuckle, though there's a hint of sadness behind it. "Even I need a break from everything sometimes, Darla. This place... it's special to me."
Darla fidgets with her sleeves again, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious.
Okay, deep breath. This is the part where he probably opens up and shares something super meaningful... maybe even romantic?!
She glances at him, hoping she doesn't look like a complete mess.
"You come here alone, then?" she asks, trying to sound casual, though her heart is racing."Yibs," Jakkub replies, his gaze drifting to the water. "It's the one place where I don't have to be the 'perfect wulfen' for everyone else. It's just... me. No pack, no expectations."
Darla pauses for a moment, processing his words. This is deeper than she expected. Jakkub, the brooding, protective wulfen who always seems in control, is opening up to her. And instead of swooning like the romantic heroine she thinks she is, she blurts out the first thing that comes to mind.
"So... you're basically, like, an angsty werewolf who needs his 'me-time'? Cool. I get that. Totally."
Jakkub raises an eyebrow at her, clearly amused. "Something like that," he mutters, shaking his head with a slight smile.
Oh my plumbob, Darla, why are you like this?!
She mentally cringes at herself but quickly recovers, flipping her hair as if that'll somehow make her sound less awkward. They stand in silence for a moment, the soft lapping of the water the only sound between them. Darla sneaks a glance at Jakkub, noticing how the sunlight catches the lines of his jaw and the faint, golden glow of his skin in the fading light. He looks... different here. Softer, somehow.
