Emma Jade Cooper had just turned fourteen last month, and her life was already written out for her—at least, that's what her parents believed. They had a plan: the best school, the strictest schedule, and every step meticulously designed to secure her success. But Emma? She wasn't so sure about any of it.
When her parents asked once, only once, if she wanted something for herself, she said art. They signed her up for piano instead. After all, art was a distraction, a waste of time, a threat to the future they had so carefully constructed for her. At first, Emma rebelled. Then, as her fingers learned to dance over the keys, she found something unexpected: joy.
That fleeting joy was what kept her going through endless weeks of rigid schedules and self-defense classes her mother insisted she needed. Emma tried, failed, and tried again, her bruises a testament to her clumsy determination.
School, on the other hand, was a different battlefield. No close friends. No shared laughs in the hallway. Just study groups filled with classmates who seemed to speak in a language she couldn't quite grasp: ambitions, grades, futures. Everyone had a place in the world they were building for themselves. Emma? She felt like a visitor in her own life, out of step with everyone and everything.
But what scared her most wasn't the loneliness. It was the future her parents had mapped out—a future that wasn't hers.
Emma loved her parents, even with their suffocating expectations. She wanted to tell them the truth, to admit she didn't want the life they had planned. But how do you explain yourself to people who are in a different universe entirely?
Because they were—literally.
Emma wasn't just a girl struggling to fit into a world she didn't choose. She was a girl that found herslef pulled into a parallel universe, where her ordinary life would shatter, and her existence would change forever.
