Lui's heart raced as the sweet, floral scent enveloped him—there was no mistaking it.

"Mate!"

The word burst from his lips, charged with an energy that filled the small flower shop. Clutching the bouquet tightly, he felt destiny settle heavily on his shoulders.

Kai, standing nearby, blinked in surprise. "What do you mean?" His disbelief was palpable, but there was a glimmer of curiosity in his eyes, as if he dared to hope this was real.

The old woman froze mid-motion, her face reflecting Kai's shock. She stared at Lui, caught off guard by his sudden declaration.

Lui clenched his jaw, determination hardening his gaze.  Kane, his wolf, stirred restlessly within him, an agitated growl rippling through his chest. He fought to maintain control, the instinct to act urging him forward.

He took a deliberate breath, his gaze still fixed on the bouquet. "Where were these flowers came from?" His voice was calm, but the urgency in it was unmistakable.

The old woman, still shaken by his intensity, answered quickly, "The Granger farm. Just a few minutes' drive from here. You passed it on your way, Alpha." She scribbled down directions, pointing at the paper as she spoke. "Once you reach this spot—" she indicated a place on the map, "—you'll see flowers everywhere."

Lui studied the directions, folding the paper with precision. His expression was focused, but a fire burned behind his eyes. "This stays between us. Not a word to anyone." His tone was firm, leaving no room for argument. "I need to confirm something first."

The woman nodded vigorously, her eyes wide with concern. "Of course, Alpha. I won't say a word."

With a final glance back at her, Lui turned to Kai. "We're leaving. Now."

As they stepped outside, Lui slid into the driver's seat, gripping the wheel too tightly. The tension between him and Kane crackled in the air, a storm brewing just beneath the surface. As the engine roared to life, the argument in his mind reached its peak.

"Drive faster! She's there--I can feel it!" Kane's growl was impatient and demanding. "Why are you wasting time?!"

Lui clenched his teeth, pushing back against Kane's dominance. "You have to calm down," Lui shot back, his voice low but steady. "We need to be careful. If we're wrong--"

"Wrong?!" Kane's frustration boiled over. "She's our mate! There's no mistake! You're wasting time. Let me take over, I'll run! We'll be there in seconds!"

"NO!" Lui's voice came out harsh, his tone cutting through the conversation as he snapped, not just internally but aloud. "I need to make sure it's really her first."

Kai jumped in his seat, startled by the sudden outburst. He glanced cautiously at Lui, knowing immediately that the Alpha wasn't talking to him, but to his wolf, Kane. The tension in the air was thick, charged with something more primal than usual. He could sense Kane's agitation—the wolf's need to take over.

"We're going to find her, Alpha," Kai said gently, though a hint of nervousness colored his tone. "Everything's going to be fine. Just take it easy." His tone was calm, but there was an edge to his words—one that pleaded for Kane to hold back.

He had witnessed this struggle before, but today felt different-- more intense and more desperate.

As they drove, Kai kept stealing glances at Lui. He was unlike any Alpha Kai had encountered before. Most Alphas exuded a cold, commanding presence, ruling their packs with an iron fist. They radiated strength in every movement. But Lui was different. He had an expressive nature, a gentleness in his personality. He genuinely cared for his pack, and while some viewed his kindness as a weakness, Kai knew better—it was his greatest strength.
