Chapter 1:Memories

"Derek I don't wanna gooooo." I complain to Derek, my brother.

"Iris. you're going to Beacon Hills High, and that's that." Derek tells me, clearly annoyed.

I love Derek and all, and I get he's mad at me for running away, but honestly, he's boring as hell! (well I guess Hell isn't boring, cause there's like demons and the devil and stuff, but whatever.) He's so grumpy, and it makes me grumpy just being around him. after that girl broke his heart when he was like 17 or something, he's just a grumpy old fart.

I huff. "Fine! i'll go! But you're driving me!" I yell down the stairs.

"whatever Iris! just get your bag ready for Friday!" Derek yells back.

I finish packing my bag, with all the essentials. Extra face powder, my books, a portable phone charger, extra mascara, etc etc. it's only Monday, but Derek wants me to be ready.

Beacon Hills is a nightmare for me. it still haunts me everyday. Seeing my family's flesh being burned off of their tough bodies, their ear piercing screeches and howls. I remember the exact feeling of the tears burning my face and clouding up my vision. I want to take revenge on the monster who did this to my family.

"run Iris! you can get out! save yourself! I love you honey!" my mom screams at me, the fire engulfing her body.

The tears burn my eyes as I fall to the floor.

"Iris!" I hear Derek yell. I feel big arms lift me up like I was a feather. Then cool air hits me.

Half-conscious, I say something. "Derek."

"you're ok, you'll be ok." I feel Derek's hand on my thigh, then no burning flesh sensation anymore. Derek healed me.

"our family. "I whisper, the tears stinging my eyes once again. I look at the house, and the flames had died down.

"I know. we just have to stick together, and we'll be just fine. okay?" Derek assures me.

and just a few days later, while Derek's on a hunt, I left him. alone.

I can't believe I just left him. I just left him alone, for I lost count of years. I can't even imagine what was running through his mind when he came home and found no one. I regret leaving him. But I could never work up the confidence to go back to him.I thought he'd hate me and tell me to go, again, but he found me. It probably wasn't that hard for him to track me down though.

Derek had lived with me since I was a baby. The hale family took me in, when I was a few days old, and found me on their doorstep. He was like a real big brother to me. I was part of their pack. even though I was a human, I was still considered a hale family member. I don't know why any of them never turned me. Then a memory flashes.

TWO MONTHS EARLIER

"Derek." I say, walking into the living room, where Derek is sitting on what we have of a couch, on his phone.

"yeah?" He asks me, looking up from his phone. "Iris, what's wrong?" ( DEREKS FACE AT TOP)
