In the morning, Jay stirred, eyes slowly opening to the realization that the warmth he'd felt beside him the night before was gone.
His body ached from the intensity of the night, but something else gnawed at him.
He was alone.
Jay sat up, running a hand through his hair, and sighed heavily.
The desk lamp still flickered dimly, papers scattered across the floor where they had fallen in the heat of passion.
His clothes were haphazardly tossed on the nearby chair, and yet, of all the chaos surrounding him, the only thing he could focus on was the absence of Heeseung.
He glanced around the room, hoping to find some sign of him, maybe he was just in the bathroom, or grabbing coffee from down the hall.
But as the seconds stretched, it became clear that Heeseung had left without a word.
Jay’s jaw clenched.
He stood quickly, pulling on his discarded pants, and rushed to his desk.
Without a second thought, he snatched up his phone and called Heeseung’s number, his fingers trembling slightly as he pressed the call button.
The phone rang once, twice, three times before Heeseung finally picked up.
His voice, when it came through, was cool and detached.
“Hey.”
Jay’s breath hitched, his heart racing as he quickly launched into his questions.
“Where are you? What are you doing? Why did you leave?”
His voice was firm, but there was a hint of vulnerability beneath it.He hadn’t expected Heeseung to just disappear like this, not after the way he’d surrendered to him last night.
Heeseung’s response was maddeningly calm.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal, Jay. It was just a night.”Jay felt the floor drop beneath him. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
His mind raced, trying to make sense of what he was hearing.
Just a night?
After everything, after the way Heeseung had crumbled in his arms, it was supposed to be more than that.
Wasn’t it?
Heeseung’s disinterest stung. Jay clenched his fist, gripping the edge of his desk as his frustration bubbled over.
“Get to the office. Now.”
His tone was sharp, an order wrapped in desperation. But on the other end of the line, Heeseung only laughed, the sound cutting through the air like a knife.
“You think you can just command me like that? Because we fucked?”
There was a brief pause before Heeseung’s voice dropped, a bitter edge creeping into his words.
“You don’t own me. And you never will. Just because you had me for one night doesn’t mean I’m yours.”Jay stood there, stunned into silence.
He had been so sure of the power he held over Heeseung, of the connection between them, but now, hearing him speak like this, that certainty crumbled.
He tried to say something.
Anything, but nothing came. The line went dead before he could even gather his thoughts, leaving him standing in the quiet emptiness of his office, phone still clutched tightly in his hand.
