Close Friends

Prologue

Narrator Pov

An eight year old Beyoncé skipped ahead of her mother as they made their way to the park. Having turned eight a few days prior, she felt old enough to walk by herself since it was so close to home, but her mom refused, so they made a compromise. Once they reached the park, Beyoncé raced to her favorite place, the sandbox. She usually played alone because it was easier than fitting someone else into her imaginative world, but today, it was different. Today, she was feeling adventurous.

Beyoncé walked up to a little girl who was playing alone and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Beyoncé." She beamed, showcasing her missing tooth. The girl was slightly startled before a smile spread across her face. "I'm Onika."  Beyoncé's smile widened as she sat next to Onika in the sandbox. We're gonna be best friends," she said as they began to play.

Three days later
First day of school

Beyoncé skipped into her 3rd grade class and greeted her teacher. While looking for a place to sit, Beyoncé noticed Onika seated in the back corner, doodling on some paper. A smile spread across her face as she made her way over to her best friend. "Hi," she said as she sat down. Onika looked up and smiled at Beyoncé, which caused her smile to widen. The girls talked and giggled amongst themselves as they waited for their teacher to give directions, growing closer as their conversation continued.

Narrator Pov

It was the first day of senior year, and Onika was excited. She and Beyoncé absolutely couldn't wait to graduate and start their lives. Onika stood outside Beyoncé's home, waiting for her to come out. A few moments later, an excited Beyoncé made her way out the door and towards her equally excited best friend. "We're finally seniors, Nika!!" Beyoncé exclaimed as she hugged the life out of her shorter counterpart. "I know, BB," Onika responded with just as much enthusiasm as she hugged Beyoncé back. Once they pulled away, ONika grabbed Beyoncé's hand and dragged her to her car so they wouldn't be late for the first day of their last year.

Graduation Day

"We finally did it, BB!" Onika exclaimed as she jumped into her best friend's arms. Beyoncé spun her around as they squealed in excitement. "We graduated!!" Beyoncé exclaimed as she put Onika back on her feet. Both girls had gotten accepted into Howard. Nika will attend Howard Medical, while Bey will attend Howard Law. They planned on living together in an apartment close to both campuses. Throughout their senior year, the girls spent most of their time finalizing what they wanted to achieve after graduation. The more they talked about it, Beyoncé realized that she saw Onika as more than her best friend. She kept those feelings to herself because what if Onika didn't feel the same and her confession ruined their friendship? Beyoncé couldn't imagine a world without her best friend, so she kept her feelings a secret. Maybe one day she'll come clean, but right now, she was content with having Onika in her life.
