PREFACE

I'm Nana Wataru, and my best friend is Nami Fujikawa. Our meeting felt like fate, especially considering how perfectly our names complement each other, despite being total opposites. If you've ever watched Soul Eater, think of us as a twist on Liz and Patty—I'm like a gothic, emo version of Patty, with black hair and tattoos, while Nami is basically a spitting image of Liz, with her tall frame and long DYED blonde hair. I like taking my chance to say it's not actually her natural hair but to be fair mine isn't either. I quite literally re-dye it black at least once every couple weeks. I always say I'll stop dyeing mine once she stops dyeing hers but I know she'll never do it.

I just wrapped up my time at community college and finally transferred to the university where Nami is studying. I was excited to meet new people and dive into new experiences, but of course, every new beginning comes with its own set of challenges... and this one was no different. I had no idea that the world I was stepping into was about to change everything...

MONDAY

It was my first year at a real university after spending my previous days at a community college. But this wasn't just any ordinary university; it was the next step beyond Jujutsu High. I had no idea what the world of curses was like until I turned 20—well, more like a month after I turned 20.

It all started with relentless migraines and blurred vision. Like any sensible person, I went to the emergency room, only to discover that my once-perfect 20/20 vision was gone. So yeah going to the hospital was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, especially when I found out I just needed glasses. What I didn't expect was that losing my perfect eyesight would turn my world upside down. Sure, I couldn't see clearly anymore, but I was suddenly aware of these weird monsters lurking everywhere.

I was walking with my best friend in one of those shopping malls and just as I was beginning to get used to my new glasses I started seeing these weird creatures just roaming the streets. I asked my best friend if she could see them as well but all she did was laugh and say "wow those edibles must really be getting to you". My best friend has never been one to believe in superstitions or super natural beings so something like this would've been the last thing she'd believe me on. I hoped that it really was the edible causing me to see whatever these things are. After some time shopping I decided I needed to go home feeling sick partially from the new glasses but mostly from seeing one of those creatures throw up some weird slimy liquid. I went to sleep early that night hoping that maybe I took one too many edibles and by the morning time I'd feel fine.

TUESDAY

The next morning was my day off from work. I work as an intern photographer assistant for some of the most famous idol groups in South Korea. I've helped with photoshoots for groups like BTS, Red Velvet, and my personal favorite, Stray Kids. I live a busy life and my one day off a week from both school AND my internship was luxury to me. So what else would I do besides stay home all day and binge Kdramas. It was a normal day like any other. I guess my best friend was right about me seeing things because of the edibles. I still felt like all of what I saw the day before was a little too real but hey I did actually get those edibles from a dispensary for the first time so maybe they were just a bit stronger than I expected.
