Present
I was experiencing some indigestion and couldn't quite pinpoint the cause. Everyone was busy setting up the conference hall for contract signing day, and I didn't want to dampen the mood. I took a deep breath, feeling both uncomfortable and unwell, but I knew I had to explain the contract and celebrate the upcoming movie set to begin production next week. I was wearing a pink tego, a pink wonju, and a nylon kira, hoping I wasn't overdressed for the occasion.
"Dechen, what do you think of the decorations?" Tenzin asked as he came up beside me, looking sharp in his black gho. "It's nice! I think we should set the tables like this so the actors and actresses can see each other and form chemistry," I said, meeting his gaze.
"Oh, okay. Just try to relax—you look a bit pale," Tenzin replied in his usual tone.
One by one, each cast member entered the room and took a seat at the table where we had written their names. Gyeltshen and Wangchuk entered the room, and Wangchuk greeted me with his usual serious expression. However, for some reason, Gyeltshen avoided my gaze entirely. I wasn't sure why, but I didn't want to dwell on it either. Tenzin patted my shoulder, signaling me to relax as he noticed my tension.
"Hello everyone! I welcome you all once again and thank you for your valuable time. As we all know, today is Contract Signing Day, and I hope everything goes smoothly without any issues," I announced into the microphone.
"The contract terms will be explained by Mr. Tenzin, my co-worker," I said, gesturing for Tenzin to come up to the small stage. He took the mic and began his explanation, while I quietly slipped out of the room, feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
I sent Tenzin a message, letting him know I'd be outside getting some fresh air. Once I stepped out of the building, I took a deep breath and patted my chest, hoping to ease the discomfort I was feeling.
"Are you okay?" I heard a familiar voice and turned to see Gyeltshen, looking handsome as always in his Menthra gho. I couldn't deny he was handsome.
"What are you doing here, Mr. Gyeltshen?" I asked, surprised to see him outside while contract signing was happening inside. He looked a bit annoyed for some reason. "Are you sure you're okay?" he pressed as he approached me.
"I'm fine," I replied, wanting to keep the conversation short.
"Are you okay?" he asked again, irritation creeping in. Why was he always seeing my difficult moments, both in the past and now?
"Can you just stop asking me that? I said I was fine, right? Please, just go back to the conference. If your fans see you out here, they might not like it," I replied, wanting to make my stance clear. I never wanted to be confronted like this, and I certainly didn't want him to act as if we were close.
"You're someone who hides your pain, so—"
"Don't act like you know me, Mr. Gyeltshen," I cut him off, my frustration bubbling over. I turned and headed back to the conference hall, leaving him standing there behind me.
When I reached the conference hall, the cast was already reading through the contract, some of them having finished.
"Are you okay?" Tenzin asked as he came up beside me. I nodded, silently counting how many times I would have to hear that question today. "If they're finished, tell them to have lunch and drinks. Can you wrap things up? I think I need to go home—I'm not feeling well," I said.
"Noted. Take care," Tenzin replied, giving me a concerned look.
I walked out to the parking lot and climbed into my car, grateful for the quiet moment. I leaned against the car, taking a deep breath. I grabbed my water bottle from the seat and took a drink, feeling a bit of relief wash over me.
