"So.." Vicky replies from the other end of the line when she picks up.
"So.." I repeat, it was after school and I was walking home when I called her again. "The last call, you hung up while you were coughing.." I remind her. "Yeah, about that.." she chuckles but her tone changes. "I can't believe, there are people like him who exist! You won't even believe what happened, it was the most Wattpad thing, I've ever witnessed-" She kept rambling and I broke her off. "Slow down, please, and who's 'him'?" My curiosity got the best of me.
"Okay, I probably shouldn't overthink this but you know that Landon guy?" When I don't reply she goes on "That hot guy all the girls fawn over, player, blonde, grey eyes, our year?" She ends the sentence like a question, honestly her knowing this much about a guy is surprising. I had no idea who that guy was though. "Lopez, how do you not know Landon Williams?" She asks making his name sound like a big deal. "Well, whoever it is you certainly got attached to him.." I tease. "No- I haven't even finished yet, so you can't make fun of me." She warns but then continues "His dad is the CEO of some company, what was it again?" She makes a frustrated sound. Williams. I think to myself. "I think the company name itself is Williams and Co. or so-" Of course, she interrupts me when I'm about to say something smart.
"Williams and Co.! That's it!" She exclaims and I frown "That's what I said-" I argue back but she ignores me "Yeah, so like I was minding my own business on the rooftop you know, at our spot and then I called you, we were talking and then I smelled smoke." She pauses for my reaction "Okay, that's not good" I say so she knows I'm listening. "Exactly, so me having asthma started coughing and I started heading back inside-" I interrupt "Not really smart, what if it was the school that was on fire?" I commented "Let me speak, Lopez" I was about to reply but she cut me off "So, I started heading inside and on my way.." She chuckles again but this time it sounds forced.
"He was there. Smoking with his boys" and I burst out laughing without even meaning to. "Wow.. uhm.."
"It isn't funny, Anthony," She says a bit sternly.
"I'm very sorry," I say with sarcasm dripping my tone.
"They weren't supposed to be smoking on school property"
"It didn't seem to stop them.." I consider.
"You're supposed to be on my side," She says and I can just imagine her glaring at me.
"So, what happened next?" I ask to change the topic.
"I didn't say anything, I gave them a glare, especially to Landon and he-" She hesitates as if she was embarrassed.
"What happened, V?" I ask teasingly with a grin on my face.
"He winked at me." Knowing Vicky, she's thinking about that way too much. I snicker "Oh my God." I breathe between laughs "He winked at you?" I ask to confirm. "Shut up." She mumbles through the line "And I know what you're thinking."
