Why me?
This can't be happening!
Just why?!
Those were the thoughts which continued to run throughout Dash's mind the next morning as he got ready for an early soccer practice.
"This can't be happening."
"What can't be happening?" He whipped his head around to find his teammate Luke looking at him curiously.
"What?" he asked.
"You said 'this can't be happening.'"
"Oh did I?" he stated more than asked before leaving the change room and walking towards the field. His thoughts were still all over the place when his cleats made contact with the turf. He felt the cool air hit his cheeks and dismissed the feeling as he ran up and down the field several times, remembering what the girl he met the day before had said.
"I'm pregnant."
How could he have made that mistake?
It wouldn't have been so bad if it was his girlfriend whom he had impregnated. But it was some girl whom he had never met before, a complete stranger.
"But how do I know that she's not lying?" he asked himself out loud.
"Myers! Get your ass over here!"
He turned around to find the coach on the field with his clipboard in hand, looking at him angrily. He nodded and pushed his thoughts away before he ran to the rest of the team. Silently, he listened as the coach explained a strategy to the team before he asked them to attempt it.
Dash didn't allow his thoughts to be a distraction as he joined the team in executing the new play.

"You were great out there. I feel so lucky to have such a talented boyfriend," Chloe, his long-time girlfriend said when he got off the field. He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her cheek.
"You didn't have to come, I know you have midterms coming up."
"But I missed you," she pouted. He chuckled and pecked her lips before saying:
"Wait here, I'll be right back."
Chloe nodded before he left her and went to change. When he returned he found her where he had left her and put out his hand for her. She smiled and grabbed onto it.
"Where should we have lunch?" he asked her.
"It doesn't matter," He looked at her with a blank look. He had been with her for long enough to know that when she said that it didn't matter, it did in fact matter.
"What would you like to eat?" he asked.
"Anything."
"Seriously Clo." She didn't say anything for a while before she playfully rolled her eyes.
"You know me too well." He chuckled and followed her to her favorite restaurant on campus. They ordered their drinks and didn't have to wait for long before it arrived.
"You looked so great on the field today," she said taking a sip of her strawberry milkshake.
"What are you trying to say? That I don't look good on other days?" he asked her.
"You know what I meant," she replied hitting his arm playfully. He smiled and took her hand and kissed the back of it.
"But it looked like something was bothering you."
As soon as he heard that, his demeanor changed completely. The smile which was on his face immediately disappeared as his face darkened.
"Is something wrong Dash?" he heard her ask.
The thoughts which were consuming him earlier in the day came back, making it hard for him to concentrate on her words. He shakily reached for his glass of soda and drank it ignoring the burning feeling in his throat.
"Dash, why aren't you talking?"
It was the smell of their food finally arriving which caused him to finally say something.
"Let's eat."
He picked up his fork and began to eat his pasta, watching from between his eyelashes as she began to eat hers after some hesitation.
He tried not to think about it but he knew that it was wishful thinking for him to believe that she would still be with him after he told her. And because he didn't want to lose her, he chose to remain silent for now.
He couldn't jeopardize their relationship with something which was only a possibility at the moment.
