So here is the much needed glossary, because hey, we aren't all yeshivish!

Cholent- A traditional Jewish Shabbos dish of slowly baked meat and vegetables, prepared on a Friday and cooked overnight.- from the oxford dictionary. But it's basically a glorified stew cooked in a pot, and the jewish world has a bit of an obsession with it. ( Including me..yeah it's that good.)

Shabbos, aka The sabbath…Shabbos is the ashkenazi jewish pronunciation for shabbat. (you can google ashkenazi if you want, lol) –a day of religious observance and abstinence from work, kept by Jewish people from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and by most Christians on Sunday.--the oxford dictionary. (This means on Shabbos, Chana and her community cannot drive anywhere, they have to walk…you don't have to completely understand it, but if you read anything abnormal in the story like the characters not being able to turn the lights on and off, you can assume it's because of the rules of Shabbos:)

Tichel- A headscarf often worn by married orthodox Jewish women in compliance with the code of modesty known as tzeniut–Google, wiktionary… So long story short, orthodox jewish girls from age 12 and up have modesty rules called tzeniut. They have to cover their collarbones, knees (with skirts), and elbows, and eventually their hair (but only after they get married), in the presence of men not in the immediate family. So women might wear a tichel, or a sheitel-which is an expensive realistic wig. Girls ages 12 and under still have to cover the necessary body parts, just it might be less strict. It depends on the family.
