The alarm that Cameron had set for Kate at 6:30 am, came way too early. She wished she'd had the day off, but her schedule didn't allow it, since she'd already taken the whole previous week off. She rolled over and found him fast asleep. She reached over and kissed him lightly on the shoulder, so not to wake him. Then she went to the luxurious master bathroom, the one that she'd come to love so much, and began getting ready for work.
At 7:45, she came into the bedroom with her work clothes on, feeling much revived after the warm shower and was ready to leave. She gently shook Cameron, to wake him briefly. "Hey, you," she whispered. "I have to go to work now. Can I take the truck? My car's at the apartment."
Cameron stretched and groggily smiled at her. "Why don't you take the Land Rover. The keys are in the kitchen drawer. Will you come back tonight after work?"
She rubbed his cheek with the back of her fingers. "Yes. Now go back to sleep. Call me later, okay?"
He mumbled an affirmative answer, then rolled over and went right back to sleep. Kate chuckled to herself, then went in search for keys to a vehicle she'd never driven or even seen. She arrived safely at work, only after struggling to pull the massive vehicle out of the garage.
As she expected, it turned out to be a really long, hard day. It didn't take long for the five interrupted hours of sleep that she got last night, to wear on her. She had so much work to catch up on, though, that she kept pressing forward. Sometime after lunch, Cameron called to check up on her, and she was jealous of the extra sleep he had gotten after she'd left for work. She made plans with him to meet at the race shop after she got off and then they had a few errands to run before they grabbed dinner together. It felt good to have someone to do things with and depend upon.
Around 3:00, the florist came into the bank, with a vase of spring flowers. Kate smiled when she saw them and they lifted her spirits, knowing that Cameron cared enough to acknowledge her hard day. The romantic gesture kept her going the rest of the day, while she busily worked and looked forward to seeing him tonight. When the bank closed at 4:00, she stayed on until almost 5:00 to finish tying up all her loose ends left from when she was on vacation.
When Kate arrived at the shop, Cameron was in his office on the phone, as usual. While she waited for him to get off the phone, she began going through the stacks of books and papers in his office. It was a task she'd eagerly been waiting to start when the right moment came. Tonight would not be the night for a full organizational makeover, but she could at least get started. He smiled and shook his head at her with a stifled laugh as she started moving things around. It wasn't too long before the phone call ended.
"I knew it wouldn't take you long to start trying to organize my stuff!"
"I'll leave it alone, if you want," she looked at him.
"No, please, be my guest. I'm not good at filing things away, as you can see. All this stuff has been waiting for just the right person to come along and organize it."
"It will take me several days to get it anywhere where it needs to be. One day, you and I will have to sit down so you can at least give me a direction in where I need to go with it. Then I can work on my own to get it organized. It'll give me something to do while you're gone."
"Sounds like a plan. Maybe one evening we can come up here and get started. I've got stuff for CCR, stuff for cup, stuff for the charity. It all has a place, really," he laughed, "you just can't tell. I know right where everything is."
Kate stifled a laugh and said, "Oh, really? Then, where is the..." she struggled trying to find something she was familiar with, but it was all foreign to her.
