Lily's pov:
Chapter 1: A New Beginning
Lily Collins tugged her suitcase through the narrow cobblestone streets of Rome, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the stunning architecture and vibrant atmosphere of the city. It had been a lifelong dream to move to Italy, and now, finally, here she was, ready to start fresh and open her own little coffee shop and library. She had envisioned a quaint corner, filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sound of pages turning.
The decision to move halfway across the world had been sudden but liberating. After years of working a mundane job back home, Lily had saved every penny to make this dream a reality. Her small inheritance had been enough to secure a little storefront, and she was determined to make it a warm haven for locals and travelers alike.
She finally arrived at the tiny shop that would soon be hers. It was old, with peeling paint and an overgrown vine creeping up one wall, but it had character. As she stood there, taking it all in, she felt a sense of peace wash over her. This was exactly what she needed.
Meanwhile, in another part of the city, Vincent Roy sat in his office, a glass of whiskey in hand. He had a reputation that echoed through the streets of Rome-a man who commanded fear and respect in equal measure. His world was one of violence and power, a stark contrast to the innocent dreams of the girl who had just arrived in his city. He was ruthless, and mercy was a foreign concept to him. For years, he had ruled with an iron fist, eliminating threats before they could even breathe a word of defiance.
He was deep in thought when his right-hand man, Marco, entered the room.
"Boss, there's a new girl in town. Just opened up a little coffee shop in the center," Marco informed him.
Vincent raised an eyebrow, more out of boredom than interest. "And why should I care about a coffee shop?"
Marco hesitated before continuing. "It's just...she's not from here. She seems different. Innocent."
Vincent let out a low chuckle. "Innocent? In this city? I'll give her a week before she runs back home."
As fate would have it, their paths were about to cross sooner than either of them could imagine. That evening, Lily decided to explore the local market. She wandered through the stalls, marveling at the fresh produce and handmade trinkets, completely oblivious to the watchful eyes that followed her every move.
Vincent, on the other hand, was making his rounds, overseeing a few "transactions." His presence commanded attention, and people scattered as he walked by. He moved with a calculated grace, his dark eyes scanning the crowd until they fell upon her.
She was standing at a stall, haggling over the price of a bunch of sunflowers. He stopped, intrigued by the way her face lit up with a smile as she finally secured her purchase. There was something about her-something untouched by the darkness of the world he inhabited. For a moment, Vincent felt a strange pull, a curiosity he hadn't experienced in years.
Lily caught his gaze from across the street, and their eyes locked. She felt a chill run down her spine, sensing something dangerous in his gaze, but she didn't look away. Instead, she held his stare, an odd mixture of fear and fascination swirling within her. He tilted his head slightly, almost in acknowledgment, before turning and disappearing into the crowd.
That night, as she lay in bed, Lily couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't yet comprehend. She didn't know who he was, but she sensed that her path had somehow crossed with someone powerful and dangerous.
And Vincent, back in his luxurious apartment, found himself thinking about the girl with the sunflowers. He had seen many faces over the years, but hers was one he couldn't quite forget.
