Third person pov:

It was a calm and quiet night, the kind of night where the world seemed to pause in reverence for the stars above. Marjorie felt the gentle breeze off the ocean as she walked hand-in-hand with Reece, their footsteps soft on the cool sand beneath them. The moon hung low, casting a silver glow across the waves, but it was the stars that stole the show.

Reece, as always, was entranced. He had loved the stars for as long as Marjorie could remember. Every constellation, every distant galaxy, seemed like an old friend to him. And he could talk about them for hours. Tonight, though, he’d been unusually quiet, his gaze focused on the blanket of stars above.

They reached a secluded spot near the water’s edge, and Reece spread out a blanket for them to sit on. The sky stretched endlessly above, a canvas of sparkling lights that seemed to shimmer just for them. Marjorie leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulder, and listened as he began speaking softly.

“You know, the stars have always been there for me,” Reece murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “No matter what was happening, no matter how chaotic life felt, I could always look up and find something constant, something beautiful.”

Marjorie smiled, the sound of his voice as soothing as the waves lapping at the shore. “I know. You could spend forever talking about them.”

Reece chuckled softly. “I could, couldn’t I? But lately, they’ve started to mean something different to me.” He turned to look at her, his eyes catching the faint light of the stars. “They remind me of you.”

She raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Me?”

“Yeah,” Reece said, his voice suddenly serious. “They remind me of how constant you’ve been in my life. How even when things got tough, you were always there. My anchor, just like the stars are.”

Marjorie’s heart swelled as she listened, the emotion in his words touching her deeply.

Reece stood, pulling her gently to her feet. He took a deep breath, and Marjorie noticed his hands trembling ever so slightly as he reached into his pocket. “Marjorie,” he began, his voice soft but steady, “you’ve been my light, my constant, and I want you by my side for the rest of my life.”

As he dropped to one knee, the world seemed to hold its breath. Marjorie’s eyes widened, her heart racing as she realized what was happening.

Reece held out a small, delicate ring that glimmered under the starlight. “Will you marry me?”

For a moment, everything was still. Marjorie could hear nothing but the waves and the soft, steady thrum of her heartbeat. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked down at him, the man she had fallen in love with over the years, the man who had always been there, just like the stars above.

“Yes,” she whispered, her voice breaking with emotion. “Yes, Reece, I’ll marry you.”

Reece’s face lit up, his smile as bright as the stars he loved so much. He slid the ring onto her finger and stood, wrapping her in a tight embrace. They held each other for a long moment, the stars watching silently over them as they stood on that quiet beach, two souls promising forever.

As they pulled apart, Reece looked up at the sky once more, his hand still entwined with hers. “You know,” he said with a grin, “I think the stars just got even more beautiful.”

Marjorie laughed softly, leaning her head on his shoulder again. “They always were. I think we’re just seeing them differently now.”

And together, they sat beneath the stars, the future spread out before them like the endless night sky, full of hope and promise.
