More leaves are falling.

I looked out the window, completely ignoring Mr. Mitch's lecture. I had the luxury to daydream since I already read the notes he posted online. It wouldn't make sense to waste my energy into Mr. Mitch's complicated explanations. High school math was a challenge.

Jake, on the other hand, was nearly dozing off beside me. Every once in a while, I would turn my head to make sure he wasn't actually sleeping.

I counted the leaves falling from the trees outside. My eyes suddenly focused on the group of trees behind the one I was looking at. Those group of trees were part of the forest, and my mind couldn't stop going back to the event that happened a few days ago at that library party.

That figure, and those eyes, could it have been a vampire?

I began to believe the legends. Maybe they were real.

That magnifying pull I felt towards that creature puzzled me still. If all of those tales are true, then why was I feeling that magnifying pull? I wasn't the only one. Those members that I read in the transcription felt the same way too, but why?

Another thought crossed my mind. The library isn't near the woods, so why did a figure that resembled a vampire show up there? All the legends said that they only appeared near the woods...

"Ms. Amber."

My head snapped to the front of the class, where Mr. Mitch was tapping his expo marker on the palm of his hand.

My eyes awkwardly scanned the room, the sea of eyes looking at me. I saw Jake come out of his dozing off daze, his eyes looking at me, then Mr. Mitch.

I could feel my cheeks flush. "Uh, yes?" I managed to stammer, wishing I could just melt back into my seat.

Mr. Mitch's gaze was piercing, like he could see straight through my thoughts. "You seem to be paying very close attention to the lesson, so please help us in finding the mistake in this question?" His voice held that mix of authority and curiosity that made my stomach churn.

I looked at the whiteboard, where he had a pre-drawn coordinate plane. In there were two obtuse trapezoids.

Shape A is rotated 180 degrees to form Shape B.

I quickly figured out the answer. "You flipped point C in shape B." I said quietly.

Mr. Mitch nodded. "Correct, and what is the correct coordinate for point C?"

My cheeks began to flush. I needed time to answer this question, and I knew I couldn't answer it quickly, like Mr. Mitch had always preferred us to do.

I heard a chair squeak beside me.

"It's (10,3)." Jake whispered in my ear.

I saw Mr. Mitch's eyes lock onto Jake. "Thank you, Jake, but I asked Amber to answer." He turned his body, facing the whiteboard, but his eyes were still on us. "Next time, focus."

I nodded. "Sorry."

Mr. Mitch turned his head and began to write the answer on the whiteboard. As he resumed his lecture, I stole another glance out the window, already back in my daydreams.

After what felt like an eternity, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. I already began putting my binder and pencil case away in my backpack.

"Alright, make sure to complete the last two pages for homework." Mr. Mitch said over the sounds of backpacks being zipped open and closed.

I zipped my backpack closed, slinging it over my shoulders.
