AS THE GROUP OF medics rushed inside Gale Weather's apartment, Mindy, Chad, Genevieve, and Ethan followed closely behind, freezing in their tracks at the sight of Gale's still body. Her blood soaked the floor, the red color splattered across the walls. In the center of the room, Sam and Tara stepped back, giving the medics room to work.

"Is she...?" Mindy asked.

Sam shook her head. "I don't know."

Without hesitation, Genevieve raced toward the two girls and reached out to them. "Hey, are you guys alright?"

Sam gave a small nod, though her eyes remained fixed on Gale's body. "I don't know."

"It happened so fast," Tara whispered.

Genevieve's heart ached seeing them like this. The girl took a step closer, her eyes filled with sympathy.

"It's okay. You're both okay," she reassured.

"But Gale..." Sam muttered.

Genevieve squeezed her shoulder a little tighter. "The medics are here. They're going to do everything they can for her. Right now, we need to focus on you guys. Are either of you hurt?"

Tara shook her head, but her wide eyes never left Gale. "No...but she didn't move. She didn't even scream."

"I should've done more," Sam whispered.

"Sam, you did what you could," Genevieve assured her. "You're safe now. That's what matters."

"Fuck!" he shouted.

Everyone watched in silence as the medics quickly began checking Gale's vitals.

"I've got a weak pulse!" one of the medics suddenly called out. "Get the backboard! We need to move her, now!"

The group quickly moved, trailing behind the medics as they carried Gale Weathers downstairs. However, Ethan and Genevieve stayed behind, standing alone in Gale's apartment, now eerily quiet.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

"Say something, Gen," Ethan finally whispered.

Genevieve paused, searching his face.

"Who..." she whispered, barely able to keep the tremble out of her voice. "Who else?"

The boy let out a slow breath, as if weighing his next words carefully. Then, he looked at her with a sadness she hadn't seen before.

"Detective Bailey..." Ethan said. "My dad."

Genevieve blinked, the revelation hitting her hard. "What? Your dad is-"
