Chapter 7: A Day Out
Leo's POV:
The sun peeked through the curtains, spilling golden light across the cluttered apartment. I stretched lazily, glancing at Eli, who was still charging. His soft, almost human features were serene, and I couldn't help but think about how much I wanted to take him out today. Even though last night's threat kept lingering in my head like fog. But Max said it'll be fine right? I hope so.
As he powered up, I decided to play it cool. "Morning, sleepyhead," I teased, nudging him gently.
Eli's eyes flickered open, and he smiled, that beautiful, radiant smile that made my heart flutter. "Good morning, Leo. What's the plan for today?"
"Let's get you out of here. I want to show you the city. We could check out the market and grab some food. Sound good?"
Eli tilted his head, a curious glint in his eyes. "You think people will accept me being out and about?"
I shrugged, grinning. "You look so human; nobody will know the difference. Plus, I have a plan." I rummaged through my closet, finally pulling out an oversized hoodie and a baseball cap. "hoodie and cap. Trust me, it works every time."
Eli laughed, and my heart raced at the sound. "Are you sure that's a good idea? I don't want to attract attention."
"Relax! It's perfect. You'll blend right in." I tossed the hoodie at him. "Put this on. You'll be incognito, just like a cool undercover agent."
With a playful roll of his eyes, Eli put on the hoodie, pulling the hood over his head. I couldn't help but chuckle at how adorably human he looked. The baseball cap completed the look, casting a shadow over his eyes.
"Now you're ready for a day of adventure," I declared, grabbing my own jacket.
As we stepped out into the bustling streets, I felt a surge of excitement. The city was alive with energy—people rushing past, laughter echoing from nearby cafes, and the scent of street food wafting through the air. I turned to Eli, who was taking it all in with wide eyes.
"See? Isn't it amazing?" I said, nudging him playfully.
"It is," he replied, his voice full of wonder. "Everything feels so... alive."
We wandered through the market, Eli fascinated by the colorful stalls. I tried to be the guide, but he was like a kid in a candy store, darting from one thing to the next. I laughed as he inspected everything, his curiosity infectious.
"Look at this!" Eli exclaimed, holding up a quirky gadget. "What even is this?"
I peered at the strange contraption, trying to suppress a grin. "I have no idea. Looks like something you'd find in a sci-fi movie."
Eli chuckled, and I felt the warmth of his laughter wash over me. I found myself stepping closer, almost wanting to bridge that small gap between us. The thought of his hand brushing against mine sent a thrill through me.
We continued our exploration, stopping at a stall selling handmade jewelry. Eli picked up a simple silver bracelet and turned it over in his hands. "What do you think? Should I get this?"
I leaned in closer, teasing him. "With your style? Definitely not. You need something with more flair—like a giant neon bowtie."
Eli raised an eyebrow, trying to suppress a laugh. "A bowtie? Seriously? I think that might draw too much attention."
"True, but it would be fun!" I said, pretending to imagine him wearing it, complete with an exaggerated pose. "Imagine all the looks you'd get!"
He burst out laughing, and the sound made my heart swell. "I can already hear the dramatic gasps of disbelief. 'Is that a human, or a disco ball?'"
