The exams were just around the corner, and Emma and Jake were feeling the pressure. The library had become their new home. Their table was always full of books, notes, and empty coffee cups. Both of them knew they had to prepare as much as possible.
One evening, they were sitting in their usual spot in the library. Jake let out a loud sigh and leaned back in his chair.
“I’m done. My brain can’t handle any more of this,” he said, looking tired.
Emma smiled a little. She was used to Jake saying this every time they studied.
“You always say that,” Emma said, flipping through her notes. “And then you end up doing just fine.”
Jake shook his head. “No, this time it feels different. There’s so much stuff. How are we supposed to remember everything?”
Emma put her hand on his back and tried to calm him“We’ve studied a lot. We’ll just take it one thing at a time. You’ll be fine.”
Jake gave her a weak smile. “You always know how to calm me down. I don’t know how you do it.”
“Someone has to,” Emma teased. “You’d panic without me.”
Jake chuckled. “Yeah, probably. I’d lose my mind if you weren’t here.”
They both went back to their books, quietly studying for another hour. Emma could feel the tension in the air. Exams were tough, but they were trying to get through it.
The days leading up to their first exam were full of stress. Emma and Jake barely had time for anything but studying. They woke up early, went to classes, studied during every free moment, and stayed up late at night going over their notes.
The night before their first exam, Jake showed up at Emma’s door with snacks in hand.
“Emergency supplies,” he said with a grin, holding up a bag of chips and some chocolates .
Emma laughed. “You think snacks are going to help us pass?”
“No,” Jake admitted, “but they’ll help us survive tonight.”
Emma let him in, and they spread the snacks on her desk as they went through their notes one last time. They took turns quizzing each other and laughing over their mistakes.
After a couple of hours, Jake leaned back and stretched. “I think we’re ready. What do you think?”
Emma nodded. “I think so too. We’ve done everything we can.”
Jake smiled. “Then I guess we just have to do our best tomorrow.”
Emma nodded."Yup".
The exams were exhausting. Every day felt the same, they woke up early, went to the exam hall, and spent hours trying to remember everything they had studied. By the time they finished each test, they were both drained.
One afternoon, after finishing a particularly tough exam, Emma and Jake sat outside the library, enjoying the fresh air.
“That was brutal,” Jake said, shaking his head.
