Malia Harris was Kurt's best friend since first school and you would never see one without the other.
That is until her family moved away when she was 11. They kept in contact but could rarely see each other in person, but they called, texted and face timed as much as they could.
Two months after Malia's 16th birthday her parents as well as herself we're in a car crash because of a drunk driver speeding and hitting the car. Malia survived the crash but her parents unfortunately died. Her god parents Mr and Mrs Lopez take her in over the summer (after season 1 of glee) and she reunites with Santana, who she was always close with when she lived in Lima.
