Growing up I was always told that girls weren't supposed to do things that boys did. My mother was old school that way. She wasn't crazy, she just believed in roles. She wasn't the type to say that women belonged in the kitchen but she would say we should conduct ourselves in a respectful manner.

I grew up as a "pretty girl". My mom would never let me go anywhere without my hair being done, new clothes, and my nails being done. I used to despise it but I've grown used to it. Or should I say I was used to it. I lost my mother a few years ago to cancer. It was hard at first but now it's just a slight ache in my chest every now and then.

I miss her everyday but there's no turning back time and trying to get her back. The world just isn't wired that way.

My dad's in jail so I live with my brother in our childhood home. He's been my legal guardian for almost two years now. He's my Bestfriend most of the time, but sometimes he can be very aggravating so I lock myself in my room to get away from him.

Usually we're not alone due to my brother's drug dealing friends always being at our house. They're all pretty cool so it doesn't bother me as much as it would the next person. I actually enjoy their company. They're all very entertaining, mostly because they have one brain cell between them.

Red, Mari, Junebug, and Duke are the dumb ones. They're street smart but when it comes to books they're slow as hell. I don't see how they made it through highschool. I think a certain cheerleader was helping them all in MANY different areas.

Then there was Kaizen Kincaid, aka Woody. He had it all. Book smarts, street smarts, good looks, he was the whole damn package. He's also my Bestfriend, besides my brother of course.

Unlike the rest of the guys Woody stays with us sometimes. Not because he doesn't have his own place or anything but because of how close we are. Mostly me and him. My brother is usually too busy with his lil hoes to even glance in our direction, but I prefer it that way.

I adore Woody. He's literally the best! He's so chill and he doesn't treat me like a kid. Well, not usually. He has his moments where he won't let me do certain things with him and the guys but he's not as bad as my brother and Red.

Red's like a literal big brother. He's so overprotective and he doesn't play when it comes to me or Aaron. I think he made some kind of promise to my dad before he went to jail. They were close too. My dad was a really cool guy. He'd take anyone in. That's how this little family started.

I hope he's able to come home soon. I miss him everyday. I don't get to see him as often as I used to because he was transferred to another prison last summer. I think I've seen him four times since then. It's hard but I deal with it. It's not like I have much of a choice anyways.

I was currently on the couch in the living room waiting for Aaron, Duke and Woody to come back with our food. Red, Junebug and Mari were all busy playing with their lives today so they wouldn't be around.

Aaron and them had left almost an hour ago and I was getting hangry. I hated sending them to get food because they always took forever. I honestly don't understand how they take all day and they all drive fast cars. I know fast cars don't mean much if you're a slow driver but they all drive like a bat out of hell.

After roughly 10 minutes they finally came through the door with the food. I was beyond aggravated but I didn't say anything seeing as Woody paid for my food, like usual.

"Just so you know, Tia, it only took so long because your bum ass brother was doin' all that damn talkin' to the lil waitress chick." Duke said as he plopped down in the armchair across from the couch.
