The rain poured heavily, soaking the earth. Lara Ainsley sat at the edge of the chair in a dimly lit room with a faint glow from the lamp. She folded her hands in her lap, her gaze drifting far away. She watched the rainwater streak down the windowpane. Each raindrop reminded her of the storm brewing in her life.

For three years, Lara had endured a shaky marriage. She had never found happiness in those three years. Now, her heart for her husband had hardened, like the cement floor beneath her feet. She dreamed of a happy marriage like others, but it was a dream she could never attain.

Not long after, Lara heard the sound of footsteps approaching. She turned her gaze to the door with a blank expression. The door opened, and a man with blue eyes and fair skin stepped into the room. He looked at Lara with a cold stare.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Ethan Harleyn asked in an icy tone.

"Nothing," Lara replied curtly. She had actually been waiting for Ethan to come home and eat. She had spent her time preparing dinner. But it would be a shame if the food went cold, which was why she waited.

"I told you not to wait for me," Ethan said, loosening his tie and placing it on the dressing table.

"I waited for you to eat," Lara responded boldly.

Ethan let out a long sigh and looked at Lara with an annoyed expression.

"I told you not to cook. Stop pretending to be the perfect wife. You're just a wife on paper," Ethan said cruelly.

Ethan's words hurt Lara a little. How foolish she had been to love the man standing before her.

"Tomorrow, don't bother cooking. I'll be going on a business trip with Elara. I'll be away for a month," Ethan said.

Elara Rafaela was the woman who had ruined the marriage between Ethan and Lara. She was Ethan's beloved, the one he looked at with far more affection than he ever did with Lara.

"Fine. I don't care about you. Go wherever you want. Why should I care? But before you leave, divorce me. I can't stand living with a man like you," Lara said courageously.

"Fine! Tomorrow, we'll settle it in court. I'm sick of seeing your face too," Ethan replied, then jabbed her forehead with his finger.

Lara looked at Ethan with a cold expression. Ethan, disgusted by her face, stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut. Lara collapsed onto the bed, staring at the floor. Her tears flowed silently.

Sitting on the bed, she glanced down and noticed a white envelope on the small table beside the bed. She picked it up and opened it.

Inside the envelope was her pregnancy test and the ultrasound results. She had been carrying their child for three weeks already. She lay down on the bed, clutching the papers tightly.

"I'm sorry, my love," Lara whispered, then fell asleep from exhaustion.

Not long after Lara drifted off, Ethan re-entered the room. He saw Lara asleep in an uncomfortable position and adjusted her posture.

As he adjusted her, the envelope slipped from her grasp. Ethan picked it up and looked at its contents. He was shocked by what he saw.

"Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?" Ethan muttered, running his hands over his face in regret.
