Ethan paced nervously in front of the operating room, his face filled with worry. He couldn't calm himself down. Suddenly, someone placed a hand on his shoulder from behind.

"Darling, how's Lara? I was so shocked when I heard she fell, so I rushed here," Elara said.

Elara was merely acting. Deep down, she was thrilled to hear Lara had fallen down the stairs and secretly hoped Lara's pregnancy would end so she could feel satisfied. While Ethan was preoccupied with his emotions, his phone began ringing. Despite declining the call multiple times, it kept coming through. Reluctantly, Ethan had to answer.

"Elara, wait here for a bit, okay? I need to take this call—it might be urgent. If the doctor comes out, let me know," Ethan said before walking away.

Elara nodded and smiled, but behind that facade, she was scheming to make Lara suffer. Not long after Ethan left, the doctor emerged from the operating room.

"Are you a family member of Miss Lara?" asked a female doctor.

"How is she, doctor?" Elara asked with a fake concerned expression.

"For now, Lara and her baby are stable, but she'll need plenty of rest before being discharged," the doctor replied.

"Doctor, may I speak to you privately about something?" Elara said with a sinister smile.

The female doctor nodded and led Elara to her office.

"Is there something I can help you with?" the doctor asked softly.

"Drop the act—it's annoying me. Here's what I want: I need you to create fake documents about Lara's pregnancy. I want you to tell her family that she's lost the baby. Understand?" Elara demanded.

"But Miss Elara, we can't do that. It's against the rules," the doctor replied.

"Do I care? I'll pay you 5 billion. Want it? Then do it. If not, I'll make your life miserable," Elara threatened.

Ethan returned after ending his call. He saw the doctor talking to Elara and immediately approached them.

"Doctor, how's my wife?" Ethan asked anxiously.

"I'm sorry to say, Mr. Ethan. Your wife had a miscarriage. We couldn't save the baby," the doctor lied, terrified of Elara's threats.

Ethan collapsed onto the floor, staring blankly ahead. It was as if half his soul had left with the loss of his child.

"Ethan…" Elara placed a comforting arm around his shoulder, faking a sorrowful expression.

"Doctor, can I see my wife?" Ethan asked, his voice hollow.

The doctor nodded and allowed Ethan to enter. Ethan walked into Lara's room with Elara by his side. He found Lara sitting on the bed, gazing out the window with a vacant expression.

"Lara…" Ethan called her softly.

Lara turned to look at him, her face devoid of any emotion. Ethan moved closer to her.

"Lara… I'm sorry," Ethan said, tears streaming down his face in remorse.

"Disgusting…" Lara muttered before turning back to look out the window.

Ethan was stunned by Lara's response, while Elara smirked with satisfaction at her reaction.

"Lara… I'll leave for now. Tomorrow you'll be discharged. I'll come to take you home," Ethan said before leaving the room.

As he exited, he bumped into Lara's older brother, Leviathan. Leviathan shot Ethan a cold glare. He had already learned everything from his beloved sister.

"You. Follow me," Leviathan ordered.

Ethan followed Leviathan to an isolated area with no one around. Once there, Leviathan shoved Ethan against the wall.

"This is my warning. Stay away from my sister. If you don't, you'll regret it," Leviathan threatened before walking away. Ethan slid to the floor, his face filled with shock.

The next day, Ethan returned to the hospital to see Lara. He wanted to make amends for his mistakes.

Ethan walked to the counter to ask for permission to visit Lara.

"Ah… I'm sorry, Mr. Ethan. Mrs. Lara was discharged yesterday. Ah… she also left a letter for you," said a female nurse, handing him the letter.

Ethan took the letter and began reading it.

----------

Thank you for everything you've done for me. I'm sorry for failing to be a good wife to you. Now I'm leaving your life forever. I hope you won't look for me. Divorce me. I've left the divorce papers on the table.

Sincerely,
Lara Ainsley

----------

Ethan wept as he read the letter. Who would have thought everything would end like this? His life had fallen to pieces.
