The bell chimed above her head as she walked out of the local doctor's office. She let out a breath of relief knowing that she had gotten her weekly doctors appointment over with. Now she had to prepare to be poked and drugged for next week. A brief laugh left her lips as she tucked her hands into her jacket pockets, her fisted hands holding her fresh bottle of weekly prescribed medicine.
It was a brisk day out, which she was going to make sure to bring up to her parents. This was the second appointment in a row that they forgot about causing her to have to walk in the fall's nippy weather. It never failed to amaze her that they could forget about the weekly appointments that she had been attending since she was eight years old.
She looked over at the plaza, seeing the usual group of teenagers occupying their self-proclaimed seating on the steps leading up to the church. It always humored her when they looked over in her direction; they did that every single week. They'd wonder who the weird pale girl, who was only ever seen leaving the doctors office, was. And she'd stare right back, wondering who those kids were and how it felt to be a 'normal teenager' blocking the entrance and exit of the church.
Her eyes landed on the boy she always found her attention drawn to. She had heard him be called 'Clifturd', but she was hoping that unfortunate name was not really his name. He sat further away from the other teenagers, always paying attention to the group, but hardly ever being acknowledged.
The girl's thoughts on the boy were cut short when she felt a sudden pain on her right foot, falling onto the concrete sidewalk with a grimace. She heard the rattling sound of her pills being thrown around in the bottle she had been holding as she freed her hand in an attempt to catch herself before she fell.
She looked up, gasping as she watched the person who ran over her foot with a bicycle continue riding.
"D-D-DICK!" She stuttered out, breathing hard from the fall.
A hand blocked her view of the diabolical biker. She followed the hand up to the face, her struggle to breathe increasing when she realized it was 'Clifturd'.
The boy had concern etched across his face as he saw that the girl was not taking his hand. He kneeled down in front of her, picking up her medicine. "Okay. Usually when people offer their hand, it's because they want to help you."
Steph at the black hair boy, her palms growing sweaty. She took in his pale skin; he was paler than her, which she thought was impossible. His eyes were a beautiful green jade, growing lighter in the sunlight and appearing to be glassy.
"You don't talk?" No response. "You do talk?" Yet another lack of response. "Alright. Fair enough, but can you at least let me help you up?"
He set out his hand once again and Steph was dazed. So dazed that she hadn't realized that she was unconsciously placing her hand in his. So dazed that she didn't even notice the shocks of his warm hand swallowing her small freezing one in his.
The boy sent her a reassuring grin as he placed his hand on her mid back. Steph's body tensed at the feeling of someone other than her doctor and parents physically interacting with her.
Once the boy had managed to get her up, he stuck out the hand that was holding the medicine. "And this is your medicine, you beautiful, angelic woman."
Steph let out a small laugh, tucking her medicine into her pocket and looking down in an attempt to hide the furious blush that was invading her typically porcelain cheeks.
"Whaaaaat! I just helped you up and gave you your medicine and you still won't talk to me?" He jokingly asked, throwing his arms to his sides. "That's cool, but are you okay? There's a doctors office right over there, if you need me to walk you over there."
Steph shook her head, her braid swaying from side to side with the gesture.
"So you're good to keep doing what you were doing?" She nodded. "Well then, carry on my wayward son." The boy stood back, making a grand gesture of opening his arm towards the direction Steph had been walking.
She began walking, glancing over her shoulder every once in a while to stare at the sweet boy who was sending her a large grin and waving goodbye to her.
Perhaps she should consider going back to visit Dr. Desi because she was unsure of whether her heart should be beating this rapidly.=
