As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the village, you and Mitsuki stood on that hill, surrounded by the gentle sounds of nature. You remembered the first time you had encountered him, during one of the team training sessions with Boruto and Sarada.
It had been a particularly intense day, with Boruto pushing everyone to their limits. Mitsuki had watched silently, a steady presence amidst the chaos. When it was your turn to spar with Boruto, Mitsuki stepped in as a referee, his gaze sharp yet calm. His presence had a way of grounding everyone, a quality you admired.
Later, after the training session, you had approached him. "You always seem so calm, Mitsuki. Don't you ever get excited about anything?"
His response was as measured as ever. "Excitement is just another form of energy. It can lead to mistakes if not controlled."
That day, you had begun to see him as more than just an ally. You were drawn to his quiet strength, his ability to see things from a different perspective.
"Do you ever feel emotions?" you had asked him then, half-jokingly.
He had looked at you, his golden eyes reflecting the sunlight, and replied, "I feel things, but I'm still learning what they mean."
As the days turned into weeks and then months, those brief exchanges evolved into deeper conversations. You found yourself sharing pieces of your life with him, your dreams, fears, and the moments that shaped you. Mitsuki listened intently, and in return, you got glimpses of his own journey — the struggles he faced as a synthetic human, the quest for identity, and the search for belonging.
Now, standing on that hill, you felt a sense of connection that transcended words. "Mitsuki," you said, breaking the comfortable silence, "how did you come to understand what it means to be human?"
He pondered your question, his gaze drifting to the horizon. "I observe. I listen to others. Emotions are expressed in many ways, through actions and words. I try to learn from them."
You nodded, intrigued. "But it must be difficult. Sometimes emotions are messy, unpredictable."
He turned to you, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "What do you mean by 'messy'?"
You chuckled softly, remembering the times you had felt overwhelmed by your own feelings. "Sometimes I can't explain why I feel a certain way. I just... do. It can be confusing."
"I see," he replied, processing your words. "I think I would like to experience that confusion."
There was something endearing about his curiosity, the way he approached everything with an open mind. It made you wonder if he had ever felt the intensity of emotions that came with love, anger, or even joy.
"Maybe someday you will," you said gently, hoping to inspire him.
"Do you think it will be different for me?" he asked, his voice almost shy.
You shrugged, a smile playing on your lips. "I think it will be your own experience. Just like it's different for everyone else."
Mitsuki seemed to consider that, and the silence returned, comfortable and warm.
