More Than A Friend

Nightfall was soon approaching and two friends planned on staying up late. It wasn't a school night, so what was the harm in doing so? It would be fun. Painting nails, doing each other's hair, all the fun things that happen at sleepovers.

This time was different, though. As one was deeply in love with the other. Wendy tried for months to keep these feelings under wraps. Even going so far as to avoid Bebe all together. But she couldn't run from them anymore. She needed to tell her.

The two girls were currently partaking in their favorite activity; painting each other's nails. They found great pleasure in seeing what the other would create. Would it be simple and just be a color or two? Or something more extravagant and fun? A famous painting perhaps.

Bebe was attempting to paint 'Starry Night' on Wendy's nails. Trying to perfectly mimic the actual painting. Careful strokes of the different colors. Cautious not to mess it up. She studied this painting the night before and knew the painting inside and out. Confident in her ability, it was easy for her to replicate on Wendy's nails.

Wendy, on the other hand, painted 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' on Bebe's nails. It was a bit amateurish compared to Bebe's art. There were a bunch of rushed lines. It resembled just an ocean wave rather than the painting she was trying to recreate, but it got the job done.

While waiting for their nails to dry, they chatted about some of the gossip they overheard at school. Pretty much each week there was new drama and gossip going around. This week there was a rumor going around that Wendy's ex, Stan, is dating his best friend.

It pained her when she learned of this information. Not that Stan is happily dating someone else, but that she wished it was that easy for her to do. Letting her best friend know that she's in love with her.

Love between friends, especially best friends, is a precious thing. The way they had full faith in their friendship, knowing that nothing could come between them.

Wendy felt immense jealousy seeing Bebe with Clyde. He didn't seem to care that much about her; so why did Bebe stay? Was it to impress others? To let them know that she's successful?

Wendy had broken up with Stan, for good this time, but she did love him. On the other hand, it seemed like Bebe and Clyde were in a loveless relationship. Just using each other as a social status.

After maybe thirty minutes, the two girls felt content with how dry their nails were and thought about what they should do next.

"So, what should we do next," Wendy stated watching for Bebe's reaction, "I would say we could watch a movie, but I don't want to wake my parents."

Bebe just smiled in response and leaned into Wendy. All she needed was her company and nothing more.

"Why don't we get comfortable and talk for a bit. I'm sure there is something weighing on your mind."

Wendy couldn't deny such a request. Not only did she have something to tell her, but Bebe just knew the right things to say. She was always there for Wendy whenever she needed her. Stress from tests at school? She was there. Breaking up with Stan again? She was there. Trying to fit in with the other kids? She was there. Wendy loved that about her.

The two of them got into Wendy's bed, and lightly embraced each other. Bebe enjoyed these moments the two of them shared. Something only the two of them knew about. Wendy twist and twirled Bebe's hair; feeling her curly blonde hair between her fingers

"You look so down in the blues, Wendy. What's up?"

Wendy adverted her eyes from her blonde friend. She wasn't ready to tell her yet. How could she? Admitting to her best friend that she's in love with her isn't an easy thing to do. How would she react? Would Bebe hate her? Not want to be friends with her anymore?

"It's nothing, really. Just a bit of stress from school. You know?"

It was obvious that was a lie, but Bebe didn't push the matter. She instead shifted on her back and stared at the blank ceiling. This has been happening more and more. Lying. Bebe wasn't sure when she first noticed it, but she knew she didn't like it. They always told each other everything. All the gossip and secrets they knew about. Nothing was off the table for these two.

Wendy shifted a bit closer to Bebe and wrapped her arms around her. Bebe beauty outshined everything in Wendy's life and she couldn't stand it. She carefully caressed her friends cheek, feeling her warmth.

"You're extremely beautiful, Bebe," Wendy stated, noticing Bebe shifted to look at her, "I've been keeping this from you long enough. I want to be more than a friend."

Bebe was confused at first, but soon understood what she meant. Love that is no longer platonic but instead romantic. A special bond between two friends. Secure and unbroken. Bebe looked at her friend longingly. She would be in denial to say that she's never had romantic thoughts about Wendy. She was independent and knew how to hold her ground, and Bebe liked that in a woman.

"What? Like a date?" Bebe teased.

The two of them huddled closer together, now being inches apart. The thought of dating Bebe did make Wendy very happy. She had wanted this for so long that she can't let go of this opportunity.

"Yeah. Would that be something you'd want to do sometime?" Wendy asked.

Bebe warmly smiled at her friend; nodding in agreement. Dating her best friend excited Bebe. She never knew that Wendy felt this way about her, but making Clyde jealous amused her too much to turn this opportunity down.

"Tomorrow at nine, we'll have a date at the coffee shop. Deal?"
