First Impressions

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm glow over the UConn campus as students buzzed with energy, preparing for the weekend. Paige sat at a picnic table outside the student union, her t-shirt clinging to her athletic frame, her mind focused on the upcoming season. She scribbled notes in her notebook , lost in her thoughts ,mainly thinking about the upcoming season and classes.

"Hey, Paige! Come join us!" called out a familiar voice. It was nika , her teammate and close friend, waving enthusiastically from a nearby table where a small group had gathered.

Paige glanced up and smiled, setting her notebook  aside. She loved her teammates but often felt more at home in her own thoughts. Today, though, the warmth of friendship pulled her in.

As she approached, she noticed a new face among them—Jasmine, the new volleyball recruit everyone had been talking about. After looking for a little to long examining the girls appearance she noticed how her long curly hair fell onto her shoulders  and a bright smile that lit up her eyes, Jasmine exuded an effortless charm.

"Hey, I'm Jasmine," she said, extending her hand as Paige sat down. Her grip was firm yet warm, a contrast to the shyness Paige felt creeping in.

"Paige," she replied, a hint of nervousness in her voice. "Nice to meet you."

Nika nudged Jasmine playfully. "You're going to love it here. Paige is basically a legend. Just wait until you see her on the court."

Paige shrugged, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks. "I wouldn't say that. I'm just trying to keep up."

Jasmine leaned in, her interest piqued. "I've heard you're amazing. I can't wait to see you play."

The conversation flowed easily, and Paige found herself laughing more than she expected. Jasmine's humor was infectious, her stories of adjusting to college life filled with relatable mishaps and triumphs.

"So, what's it like playing volleyball here?" Paige asked, genuinely curious.

"It's intense but so much fun. I can't wait for our first game. The energy is electric!" Jasmine's eyes sparkled as she spoke, clearly passionate about her sport.

"I get that. The pressure can be a lot, but it's worth it when you're in the zone," Paige replied, their conversation deepening with shared experiences.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue across the campus, Paige felt a flicker of something new—a connection. Jasmine's presence was refreshing, a breath of fresh air in her carefully structured life.

Before they knew it, the group had dispersed, and Paige found herself sitting with Jasmine as others wandered off.

"I'd love to see you play," Jasmine said, her voice softening. "Maybe we could catch each other's games?"

"I'd like that," Paige responded, surprised at how easily the words flowed. "It's a date, then?"

Jasmine smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Definitely a date."

As they exchanged instagrams, the warmth between them felt electric, an unspoken promise hanging in the air. Little did they know, this chance meeting would be the first step toward a journey neither of them expected, one that would challenge everything they thought they knew about love and friendship.
