HIS P.O.V
"I think that if you want to do that then you should."
I rolled my eyes at my mother on the other end of the phone as she continued to rant on about wanting a vacation.
" I just don't want to plan a vacation and the weather not be nice."
"Mom, just look at the news, okay? look, I've really got to let you go. It's raining, and I'm trying to drive home."
"Can you look..."FUCK!"
I looked up from my phone and slammed on the breaks. A loud screach and bang overtook my sences as the truck haulted to a stop, and my head hit the stearing wheel. I lifted my head slowly, as a throbbing pain began to set in. Standing, shiving, in the headlights was a bearfoot woman. She was wearing a soft white dress that appeared to be covered in blood, and her brown hair was a wild mess dripping around her shoulders from the rain.
She had been attacked. My eyes darted around, doing a sweep of the surroundings. Maybe her attacker was near.
"PLEASE! Help me! He! He!.."
I jumped out of my truck and ran over to her. I should have called it in or ran after whoever attacked her, but the fear in her eyes took hold of me. Grabbing her hand gently, I pulled her with me and opened the passenger door, hurrying her inside. Once I had her in, I ran back to my side and got in, instantly reaching into the glove box and grabbing my gun.
"ANSWER ME! Hello?" My mothers frantic voice come from the floorboard, and I grabbed my phone.
"I'll call you back."
Hanging up the now cracked phone I turned to the woman now sitting across from me.Taking in her appearance, I couldn't help but think,"What the hell am I doing?"
"What happened," I asked while I loaded the gun and watched our surroundings.
"Please...," she begged hardly able to speak. "Just get me out of here. PLEASE!"I raised my brow at her screaming at me. "Exuces me?"
Please, please, I'm sorry, please just drive!"
Against my better judgement I put the truck in drive and pealed out of the neighborhood.
I glanced over at the woman in my truck. She was shivering, I didn't know if it was fear or the rain and blood that soaked her clothes. I reached into the back and grabbed a coat I keep for emergencies. She slowly took it from me as I held it out. I watched as she drapped it around the front of her shoulders but not her back."Put it on."
"I ca...I can't"
I took a long, deep breath but didn't say anything. After driving for a few more minutes, I pulled over on the side of the road and shut off the truck. She slowly looked up at me. Her eyes were...stunning. A bright green blue, with glowing gold rings around the pupils. I shook my head to focus.
"Show me your back."
"W...what?"
"Turn around and show me your back. Now." My tone was stern but gentle
I was taken aback by her obedience as she turned around to face the window and pulled her hair around her shoulders, twisting it into a tight rope.
The surprise of her eyes washed away when I saw her back. Exposed by the dress that only covered the lower half, the gashes and shards of glass sticking in her skin made a lump grow in my throat. I clenched my fist by my side. Who would do this to someone? As an officer I have seen a lot but to be off duty and be in the exact right place at the right time to for somthing like this, I suddenly felt the overwhelming urge to handle this on my own.A small whimper escaped her lips, and I caught a glimpse of the tears silently falling down her cheeks through the window. Softening my fist, I reached out with one hand to gently touch her sholder for comfort while I grabbed my first aid kit with the other from the back seat.
"I am going to remove the glass as best as I can so the ride is more comfortable and does not let the larger pieces cause further damage.. I then am going to take you to the hosp..
"No You!..
She began to interrupt as she turned to me. I firmly grabbed her chin, stopping her mid sentence. Making sure I was putting only enough pressure to keep her eyes on me.
"Do not tell me no."
