In twenty thirteen, a mysterious supernatural phenomenon called the butterfly effect caused a storm, a tornado in the town of Arcadia Bay, located in the state of Oregon. This event was triggered by Max Caulfield, an eighteen year old photography student who discovers she can go back in time to change the course of events, and who gets eerie premonitions of the future. On her journey she was reunited with Chloe Price, an old childhood friend with whom she had to face the consequences of her actions.
She was given two choices: sacrifice Arcadia Bay, wiping the entire population off the map in exchange for saving a unique life, or sacrificing Chloe, her childhood friend and partner in crime, in exchange for hundreds of other lives. A bargain of one soul for another soul.
She made the decision not to choose any of those options and to choose her own. To create her own choice, to defy time and its rules, to sacrifice herself. That decision had a doubly major impact, causing numerous storms, tornadoes and hurricanes first on the East Coast and Midwest of the United States, gradually seeking to spread across the rest of the continent. It left countless dead in its wake and devastated populations, traces of habitable civilization were lost.
As the thread of the butterfly effect stretched to breaking point, there was a major irreparable environment impact that made rainfall, weather possibilities impossible to decipher and chase. It left noticeable signs such as constant solar and lunar eclipses, a dark haze of pollution in the sky passing unnoticed through the clouds, frequent storms, squalls or tornadoes on the coasts without warning, vegetation growing out of control and animals suddenly dying.
The world was divided. No one knows who can or cannot be trusted anymore. The only way to survive it, the only way to move forward is to choose a side - run as fast as you can. Save who you can save.
