Aisling Quinn was in her room when she heard the racket of her sister and cousin. She sighed and placed her hairbrush down, grabbed her blazer, as she was sure that her mammy wouldn't allow them to be individuals, and made her way towards the noise.
"I won't put up with it anymore. Teenagers have rights now, you know?" She overheard her sister, Erin, say.
Amused, she smiled to herself and walked in, nobody noticed, but they were distracted. Aisling always could find a way to justify being left out or forgotten.
The tv showed news on a bomb.
"Oh dear God, no. Does this mean they can't get to school? I've had a whole summer of it, Gerry. They're melting my head" Mary, Aisling's mammy, complained.
"Sure their bus can go the long way round" Her dad countered.
The door knocked and Aisling ran over, as she knew there was a good chance it was her favourite aunt. She was correct.
"Alright Sarah?" Mary called out as Sarah pulled Aisling into a hug.
"Them wains shouldn't have to take the bus to school. You should be driving them, you useless shit" Aisling's Grandad, Joe, carried on at Gerry, who rolled his eyes in response.
"I have to work, Joe"
Aisling stopped listening to the rest of the conversation as she was distracted with trying to create the perfect bow with her shoe laces. She did little things that, nobody noticed but small things meant the world to her.
When she decided they were good enough, she looked up to see her sister's face painted with fear and her mam staring at Erin with a glare.
"Gerry, pass me the wooden spoon"

As the two sisters and cousin, made their way down the hill, one of their best friends was waiting for them looking anxious.
"What's all this? I thought we were going to be individuals this year!" Claire complained.
"We wanted to Claire! But our Ma wouldn't let us" Erin frowned.
Claire huffed and began removing her jacket. "Well I'm not being individual on my own!"
"Uh Claire, thats like the definition of individual" Aisling commented but only received a glare.
The girls, except Aisling, entered a Dennis's wee shop. Aisling didn't like going in as she found Dennis to be scary, and she didn't like how small the shop was. So as she waited, she counted the beads on her bracelet repeatedly.
"Get out!" Claire, Erin and Orla ran out as a furious Dennis yelled.
Claire grabbed Aisling's hand taking her with them.
"Good one, Geldoff!" Erin scoffed but then froze as she noticed something "Oh my God. David. David Donnelly. Okay, just act normal"
She laughed dramatically. Confused and concerned Claire questioned "What are you doing? Who are you talking to?"
"Erin, have you got a light?" A boy called out. David Donnelly.
"Me? No I don't smoke" Erin responded as the boy turned to Claire and Aisling, who also shook their heads no.
"I have one" Orla spoke, throwing the lighter at him, "I don't smoke either. I just like melting stuff"
David looked confused and just tilted his head.
Once again, Aisling couldn't care less about the conversation in front of her. She often zoned out, it was hard for her to keep focus, she usually fiddled with her jewellery to keep her fingers busy.
