Expectation

.

Being in the middle of the forest was something new for Kagome, especially in the midst of the solitude she seemed to find herself in. The only signs of life she could note, were that of the birds singing, completely unaware of her as she made her way through the bushes and tall grass. For a moment she thought she was lost, her gaze now on the path she had taken. Everything seemed the same. She felt overwhelmed and trapped until she remembered that she could leave this reality whenever she wanted. The realization of having forgotten this for a moment installed a feeling of fear in a part of her heart. She reached out and touched one of the nearby leaves of a bush among the many that surrounded her. She gave it her full attention and realized she could define every detail of texture and vitality in that virtual leaf. She recalled the information she had been gathering about advancements in this field and how they hoped to achieve in the future what she was already experiencing.

How was this possible?

She closed her eyes at the moment when anxiety within her took the hand of despair. Kagome reminded herself that she was in this place by her own will and that she could stop coming here whenever she decided. However, the mere idea of permanently closing her only door known, that could let her be with InuYasha, caused her a pain that was so deep, it could be considered occult.

She opened her eyes and thought she needed something to serve as a reference point in the space she was in, if she wanted to explore the area and not start from scratch. She turned around looking for something she could identify and sighed when she found nothing useful. If this was a virtual reality, she probably should be able to save a starting point and not always begin at the same bridge she entered the city through and cross it to get here. The cawing of a bird entered her ears, drawing her attention towards it, which stood out above the others. When she confirmed that nothing was approaching her from that direction, she looked forward again to continue.

Kagome was surprised to find a huge tree that stood out in the forest above the other treetops. She was absolutely sure it wasn't there a moment ago. Moreover, the tree eerily reminded her of the Goshinboku at the temple where she grew up. The idea that the space could modify itself according to her needs lingered in her mind, but she didn't want to pay attention to that thought, at least not for the moment, and she headed towards the tree.

The grass and bushes were no less dense in this direction, so it took her a bit to get through the forest. Kagome felt a certain expectation as she stepped in that direction, and when she finally could see the tree in its entirety, it stood solitary and majestic in the middle of the clearing where it was. And then, Kagome experienced the strange sensation of having lost something.

TSUNAGARI started as a sort of complaint about the artificial and the way we are deceived into believing that what we see is human creation and not something made by a program, whether illustrations or texts. The truth is, as often happens with my stories, they evolve and show me the way to keep writing. TSUNAGARI is no exception.

I hope you enjoy it and share your thoughts in the comments.
