Laughter and lively chatter filled the air as the group of seven close friends gathered together, each person contributing to the vibrant atmosphere with their playful bantering. Their voices intertwined like a melody, lighthearted teasing and friendly jabs punctuating the conversations. Inside jokes flew back and forth, evoking bursts of laughter that seemed to create a rhythmic pulse among them. The warmth of their camaraderie was palpable, as they fondly recounted shared memories and poked gentle fun at each other's quirks.
There were so many beautiful things about the number seven. It was simply the perfect number. From the seven seas to the seven continents of the world, to the seven days of the week, to the seven colors of the rainbow, seven was simply a lucky number. The world would have no harmony if the number seven was nonexistent. And neither would the friend group.
That's the way it should have been for the rest of their college years—a time of laughter, adventure, and unyielding friendship, where every challenge was met together, and every accomplishment was celebrated as a shared victory within the seven of them. The thought of anything disrupting their harmony felt unimaginable.
Unfortunately for Hyunjin, nothing is ever guaranteed, and the future holds its own twists and turns.
He could vividly recall the moment he met the man he hated the most, a day that seemed etched in his memory as sharply as the piercing winter air.
Felix had approached the lunch table with a wide grin plastered across his face, radiating an infectious energy that instantly piqued everyone's interest. It was clear he had something intriguing to share, perhaps even exhilarating, and the anticipation hung thick in the air. As he drew closer, the attention shifted to the small figure lingering behind him—a man of notably shorter stature who almost seemed to shrink in Felix's imposing presence. He clung to Felix like a cub seeking refuge behind its protective mother bear, peering out timidly at the gathering.
With a flourish of his arm, Felix gestured toward the newcomer, eager to introduce him to the rest of their close-knit group. "Everyone, this is the exchange student from Malaysia, my new friend Jisung!" he announced, his voice bursting with enthusiasm. There was a lively sparkle in the eyes of the friends seated around the table as they welcomed Jisung, their curiosity about this mysterious addition to their circle evident in their warm smiles and inviting nods.
However, amidst the cheer and excitement, one friend remained notably distant—guess who? Hyunjin. Where others were filled with anticipation, Hyunjin sat back, arms crossed over his chest, his expression a mix of skepticism and aloofness. He watched with narrowed eyes, seemingly unimpressed, as the others exchanged animated greetings and questions with Jisung, whose nervousness began to dissipate under the warm reception. The contrast between Hyunjin's aloof demeanor and the group's exuberance painted a vivid picture of the dynamics at play, hinting at potential tension yet to unfold in what was supposed to be a joyful reunion of the group.
Well, there went his lucky number seven.
Because from that moment onward, everything underwent a significant transformation. Jisung's exuberantly infectious energy erupted throughout the group like a wildfire, igniting laughter and chaos in equal measure, and boy, was it irritating. It wasn't so much the antics of the other members that rubbed Hyunjin the wrong way; no, it was solely Jisung and his incessant barrage of silly behavior that truly got under his skin. With his bizarre, almost absurd, sense of humor and his relentless chatter, he strutted around like he owned the place, tossing out random brainrot phrases and references, like a "skibidi slicers" here and an "edgemaxxer" there, as if it were completely normal.
Every time Hyunjin heard those ridiculous terms, it felt like a nail being driven into his patience. It ticked him off to the absolute maximum level. How could anyone be so relentlessly annoying and still maintain a sense of composed cheer? The sheer audacity of Jisung's carefree nature baffled Hyunjin, leaving him to wonder how one person could so effortlessly disrupt the group's dynamic.
"Seriously, what is he even doing in our group anyway?" Hyunjin mused, his mind racing with irritation and confusion. Why did Jisung have to bring this whirlwind of chaos with him? Couldn't there be a moment of peace without Jisung's ridiculousness taking center stage?
"Hyun," the figure infamously known as Seo Changbin spoke, his expression a mix of frustration and concern. "I really don't understand the one-sided beef you seem to have towards him. It's hard to see why you're holding onto this grudge. Why don't you give him a chance, huh? You might be surprised by what you find if you look past your initial impressions. Everyone deserves an opportunity to show who they really are, don't you think? Consider how things could change if you approached him with an open mind."
At the small lecture Changbin gave him, Hyunjin's face contorted into an expression which was written all over with disgust as he retorted, "Approach him with an open mind?! Over my dead body! Screw being open-minded, he's literally unapproachable anyways!"
Changbin let out a deep sigh, a rush of frustration washing over him as he mentally facepalmed. He could already see the writing on the wall; this one-sided beef had all the hallmarks of spiraling into something much more significant and disastrous.
As expected, he was right.
