{PROLOGUE}

Growing up in this house has made me more mature than my years. With a father like him, a mother like her, and brothers like them, childhood was never an option. Here, we are not allowed to call our father Dad, Daddy, or Dada—it is always Father. The same rule applies to our mother. Respect is not a choice; it is a law. If we so much as raise our voices, we disappear for seven days... and no one bothers to look for us.

In this city—Sydney— no one is ignorant of my parents' names. Even an infant, if they could speak, would whisper about them in fear.
