Chapter 8: The Road Back Home

---

Section 1: Lingering Emotions

Team 7 stood together at the edge of the Great Naruto Bridge, the bright morning sun now shining fully over the horizon. The oppressive mist that had haunted the village for so long had finally lifted, and with Gato’s tyranny over the Land of Waves ended, the villagers were free to rebuild their lives.

Naruto couldn’t help but beam with pride as he stood in the middle of the celebration, Tazuna’s declaration still ringing in his ears: The Great Naruto Bridge. They really named it after me! he thought, glancing at his teammates.

Sasuke, leaning against a post with her arms crossed, raised an eyebrow as Naruto caught her gaze. Her body was still recovering from the injuries she’d sustained in the battle, but there was a fire in her eyes that said she wasn’t about to let herself rest too long. Her cold exterior remained, but Naruto could tell she was relieved to be alive. He grinned at her, earning a scoff in response.

"Don’t let it get to your head," she muttered, though there was a faint, almost unnoticeable smile on her lips.

Kakashi, standing beside them, looked down at Naruto with his ever-present calm demeanor. "You’ve come a long way, Naruto. This was a tough mission, but you handled yourself well."

Naruto’s heart swelled with pride at Kakashi’s praise. "Thanks, Kakashi-sensei!" He then turned toward Sasuke, his expression growing more serious. "Sasuke... I’m really glad you’re okay."

Sasuke’s eyes met his, and for a brief moment, her guarded expression faltered. She opened her mouth to respond but was interrupted by Sakura’s sudden appearance.

"Naruto! Sasuke!" Sakura’s voice rang out as she jogged over to them, her eyes wide with relief. "You guys were amazing out there! I was so worried!"

Naruto grinned at her. "Thanks, Sakura-chan! It was tough, but we did it together."

Sakura turned to Sasuke, her eyes softening. "I’m glad you’re okay too, Sasuke." Though her words were simple, there was a genuine warmth behind them.

Sasuke gave a small nod, her usual stoic demeanor returning. "Yeah. I’m fine."

Kakashi cleared his throat, bringing everyone’s attention back to him. "Alright, let’s get ready. We need to head back to the village soon. Tazuna and his people can take it from here."

Section 2: Farewells and Promises

As Team 7 prepared to leave the Land of Waves, the villagers gathered around them, their faces filled with gratitude. Tazuna stood at the front, smiling warmly at the team. "You’ve done more than just protect me—you’ve given us hope."

Naruto, still standing tall and proud, nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, well, I couldn’t let Gato get away with what he did! This village deserves to be free."

Tazuna placed a hand on Naruto’s shoulder, his eyes gleaming. "You’re a hero here, Naruto. We’ll never forget what you and your team did for us."

Behind him, Tsunami stepped forward, carrying Inari, her young son, who looked up at Naruto with awe in his eyes. Inari had watched Naruto throughout the mission, seeing how he had fought so fiercely for what he believed in, and it had inspired the boy to find his own courage.

"Naruto-niichan," Inari said quietly, his voice filled with admiration. "Thank you for everything."

Naruto’s heart warmed at the boy’s words. He knelt down so he was at Inari’s eye level, placing a hand on his head. "You’re gonna be a strong guy, Inari. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. You’ve got the heart of a hero."
