Author's POV:-
A woman in her late twenties, was in her office, focused on her work. While she was busy with her laptop, she received a notification on her phone.
Curious, she checked it and saw an email.
It was a wedding invitation card from her ex-boyfriend, Varun, who she hadn't spoken to in two years since their breakup. He was getting married next week and had invited her.
She felt a mix of emotions, but surprisingly, she wasn't sad.
Just as she started to process her thoughts, a voice interrupted her trance.
"Maya!"
She turned to see her colleague cum friend, Arjun, standing nearby, holding a stack of documents in his hands.
"Hey, Maya," he sighed, looking exasperated.
"Yaar can you please sign these documents now? Mayank's been driving me crazy all morning. He needs to submit them right away."
Maya and Arjun shared a good bond, often filled with lighthearted banter and playful teasing. Arjun, ever the easy-going one, loved to annoy Maya just enough to get under her skin, enjoy her pissed off face.
"Sure, hand me the documents; I'll sign them," she chuckled, amused by the irritated look on his face.
Setting her phone aside, she began signing the papers. But mid-signature, something seemed to cross her mind, and she bit her lip, momentarily lost in thought.
When she finished, she passed the documents back to him. Arjun scanned through them with a focused gaze, unaware that she was watching him intently, debating whether to speak up.
"Thanks, yaar," he said with a smile, turning to leave. But before he could take a step, she called out.
"Arjun?"
He turned back "Yes, Maya?"
She hesitated, glancing away before meeting his eyes. "Um, if you don't mind, I want help from you... It's kind of personal."
He raised his eyebrows asking what ??
Because she is the kind of woman who never takes help from anyone ...
'Abhi nahi bata sakti..it's a bit complicated..Can we meet at the café near the office after work?'
To which he nods his head..
Maya's POV:
"So, let me get this straight-you want me to accompany you as your boyfriend to your ex's wedding and want us to act as a lovey-dovey couple in front of him?" Arjun asked, a mix of disbelief and amusement on his face.
I bit my lip, nodding earnestly. "Yaar, don't say no... It's just acting. You're perfect for it!" I pleaded, giving him my best puppy-dog eyes.
He let out a dramatic groan but finally nodded. A thrill of excitement shot through me, and before I knew it, I'd jumped up, my hands hitting the table with a loud thud.
"Calm down, woman-everyone's staring at us" he muttered, gesturing subtly to the curious onlookers.
Embarrassed, I sank back into my seat, grinning sheepishly.
But just as relief washed over me, his expression shifted, his lips curling into a mischievous smirk.
"Fine, but what's in it for me? What's my benefit in all this?"
I glared at him, then sighed, realizing there was no way around it.
"Okay, tell me what you want. But ye mat puchna ki mujhe four crores chahiye or something crazy!" I rolled my eyes, half expecting him to make some outlandish request with that business-minded brain of his.
He burst into laughter, clearly amused by my reaction.
"jab sahi time ayega, I'll let you know," he replied with a wink, his tone teasing.
Just then, the waiter arrived with our food, saving me from further negotiations.
As we dug into our meal, the café grew quieter with the evening, leaving us in a cozy silence.
Afterward, Arjun reached for his wallet, but I stopped him, resting my hand on his.
"This one's on me," I insisted, offering a smile.
"Consider it a thank-you in advance."
He looked at me for a moment, then shrugged, letting me pay.
He drops me to my apartment.
"I'll text you the trip details tonight," I said, adjusting my bag on my shoulder.
He gives a brief nod before waving a bye ,leaving from there.
