Falling for Him
Emma's POV
It happened slowly, so slowly that I almost didn't notice it at first. But the more I talked to Lucas, the more I found myself looking forward to hearing from him. My days started to revolve around our conversations—what joke I could tell him, what story I could share.
And somewhere along the way, I realized I was falling for him.
It wasn't just the way he made me laugh or how easy it was to talk to him. It was how he made me feel—like I didn't have to pretend to be someone I wasn't. Like I was enough, just as I was.One evening, after we'd been talking for hours, I found myself saying it before I could stop myself.
"I think I'm falling for you," I blurted out, immediately wishing I could take it back. My heart raced, and I held my breath, waiting for his response.
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and then I heard him chuckle softly.
"You know what's funny?" he said, his voice warm and teasing. "I was about to say the same thing."
Relief washed over me, and I let out a breath I didn't realize I'd been holding. "You were?"
"Yeah," he admitted. "I've been falling for you for a while now. I just didn't want to freak you out."
We both laughed, the tension melting away. For the first time in a long time, I felt like maybe things were going to be okay. Maybe this was something real.
