We always said we'd be friends forever. The kind of promise made with clasped hands and wide-eyed certainty, back when the world was still small enough to fit inside a shared secret. But that was before. Before the lies, before the silence. Before the betrayal that shattered us into pieces I'm not sure we can ever put back together. I never imagined it would be her. Mia, the one person I trusted more than anyone. I can still see the moment she turned her back, feel the sting of it like a slap I didn't see coming. It wasn't the kind of betrayal that happens all at once, in a grand explosion. No, it crept in slowly, like a crack spreading through glass, invisible at first until suddenly, everything was broken. I should have known. I should have seen the signs. The late-night texts she brushed off, the hushed phone calls that ended when I walked into the room. But I believed her. I believed in her. Until the day I found out the truth. It wasn't what she did, exactly. It was that she lied about it again and again until the lie became bigger than our friendship. Until trust, that fragile thing we built together, crumbled beneath the weight of all the things left unsaid. Now, I don't know what hurts more: what she did, or that she looked me in the eye and pretended everything was fine.
