-FLASHBACK-

the warm smell of fire fills my nose.
Huh?...
I hear something crackling and screams.

"Shhh... everything will be fine"
the trembling voice of my big sister Samantha forces me to open my eyes.

As if struck by lightning, I freeze and fear fills my body, which begins to shake.
These screams... I can't bear it.

"Close your eyes Liv" Samantha whispers while I can hear the fear in her voice.

"Where are mom and dad?"
it's all I can get out of myself before tears of fear run down my seven-year-old self's cheeks.
But Samatha doesn't answer.

"Mom and dad, where?" I say a little louder now, hoping that Samatha can give me an answer.
But she can't, because when we both look at the building she just carried me out of, which is about to burn down, only my mother is standing there with my two-year-old sister Kim in her arms while shes about to pass out.

"Daddy" I scream now.

No answer.

My voice is too quiet and the flames and the building collapsing are too loud, not even Samantha can hear me.
Her red, tear-stained wet face is the last thing I see before the hot smoke surrounds us and my vision goes black.

gone.

-FLASHBACK ENDED-

My eyes open and I reach for my blanket, panically gasping for air.

This is happening for the 11th time this year...

My body is completely sweaty and my cheeks are wet again from all the tears that rolled down my cheeks during the dream.
My heart, which is almost jumping out of my chest in panic, calms down a little when I feel someone grab my hand.
Without even having to look, I know it's Samantha.

She pulls me to the edge of the bed and holds me tightly in her arms while I cry her new t-shirt wet.
The silence isn't uncomfortable, we're both just holding each other tight. We always do that when this happens to one of us.

She knows this feeling, she was there too.

"I-I'm so sorry, I..." My voice breaks and Samantha squeezes my hand a little tighter.

"How many times, Liv, stop apologizing." She brushes the hair out of my face. "I'm here for you, you know that."

I nod and try my best to put a small smile on my lips so as not to worry her.

Did it work? Absolutely not.

After 2 minutes of absolute silence in the room, she lets go of my hand and goes to my desk.

"What are you doing?" I actually know exactly what she's doing, but I can't accept it anymore.

"The weekly money," she reminds me bluntly and takes it from the table before coming back to me.

"No, Sam."
I shake my head and hide my hands under the blanket.
„Not again"

She rolls her eyes because she knew that i would say that.
"No argument, Liv, you're going to take the money whether you want to or not."
