beacon hills, two days later

Two days after everything happened, Derek's funeral took place.

We were all there, standing in front of the urn containing his ashes.

Eli stood apart, watching from the middle of the hallway, his gaze fixed on the table where the urn rested.

His eyes were downcast, and he was crying. We could all hear him, but he didn't want to be seen like that.

Amelie was in the garden, running and playing with a stray cat. I kept an eye on her from the window.

We all approached Eli to comfort him. In truth, none of us knew what to say to a sixteen-year-old boy who had just lost his father.

Scott was the last to approach him, deciding to take him in, to adopt him. That way, he would leave Beacon Hills forever; Scott wanted all of us to leave that town.

And so it happened.

That same afternoon, I had a flight to New York. I had bought two tickets for that day even before arriving in Beacon Hills, just because I had promised myself I wouldn't stay there more than five days, for Amelie's sake.

Liam and Hikari had their flight to Japan shortly after ours, so we all met up there to say our goodbyes.

We were sitting in the large airport waiting area, waiting for our respective gates to open. Amelie was flipping through a book I had bought her at the airport, Hikari was next to me, speaking on the phone in Japanese, I was staring at the ceiling, exhausted, and Liam was pacing back and forth.

He seemed deep in thought, worried.

Hikari ended her call, putting the phone in her bag, then looked at the boy in front of us. "I know everything, Theo," she murmured. I looked at her, confused.

"I know everything about you, about your relationship, and what Liam still feels for you," she continued. I didn't respond, letting her finish.

"When we got together, I knew he would never forget about you. I knew that if you ever saw each other again, one day or another, you would make amends." She said, looking down at her shoes.

"No hard feelings. I'm okay with it. I just want what's best for Liam, and I want him to be happy," she looked at me again, "and I know he's happy with you," she added.

I didn't respond. Liam and I had already talked about second chances, about trying again. But we had never mentioned Hikari.

"I..." I started to say, "I'm sorry for how I treated you, I was just shaken seeing how Liam had replaced me," I continued.

"Liam never replaced you," Hikari shook her head. Then she looked at Liam, who had gone to the nearby café to get a coffee. "Go to him and ask him whatever you need to ask him," she smiled.
