Two For the Show

For the first time in a long time I woke up to the sound of birds chirping. For a second I even forgot where I was. That was until the uncomfortableness of the rope tied around my waist for support knocked me back into reality.

Awake enough to control my movements, I untied myself. Averil and Lavinia were still sleeping, so I quietly placed my portion of the rope back into the backpack. In doing so I happened to notice that the career group was gone, including the boy from 8.

Shortly thereafter I heard a slight groaning coming from beside me. Looking over, I see Lavinia moving her head around as she wakes up from her sleep. I carefully climbed to the same branch she was on to be next to her when she woke up.

As I waited, I looked around to search for something to help us through the day. Surviving as prey was hard enough, but none of us could bare to handle being predator for a day.

Killing Callista was hard enough for me. I didn't mean to do it, but I suppose it was out of self-defense. Then again, what part of these games isn't self-defense?

I noticed that the line of the woods and the desert was near. That could mean one of two things. Either the game makers will end up pushing us all to the desert, or forcing everyone to hunt each other in the woods somewhere.

My money was on the desert.

I decided to wake the girls up, as I didn't feel well about the consistent silence and calmness that had occurred so far. Usually, by now, there were a few "natural disasters" and mutts that took out many tributes.

I softly shook Lavinia awake, before waking up Averil.

"Good morning, ladies," I say, smiling at the two of them.

"Wow, you look several times better in the mornings," Lavinia says, smiling back at me.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. Nothing more than what it means, at least."

I smile and shake my head at Lavinia, "If you think I'm cute just say that."

"You guys make me want to throw up. And there's nothing for me to throw up, so just be careful with what you say."

We all laugh together before I motion down towards the ground.

"So, the careers are gone. I haven't seen them in a while. We should take this opportunity to get going, just in case, you know, they send fire after us or something."

The girls agree, and we begin to pack up our rope and extra containers from the healing goop and oatmeal.

I help them both down from the tree, taking an extra moment to look at Lavinia. I must have stared for too long, however.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked.

Instead of giving a verbal response, I just raise my eyebrows and shrug. Knowing that my real reasoning was to give the Capitol people what they wanted, but majority of my reasoning being that I thought she was beautiful.

While walking through the woods, Averil speaks up, "We should fill the empty container up with water."

Nodding in agreement we search for a water source. We decided to head back the way we came, as we knew there was a water source in that direction.

Once we made it to the small pond I felt someone push me in. I immediately fell forward as my clothes swelled with water.

Quickly coming up for air and whipping my head around, I see Averil and Lavinia giggling to themselves.
