It's hard to be the best student of your year. Especially when you've just started Hogwarts a few weeks ago, and there's already high expectations set for you.
But you know what's worse? A group of four annoying boys, with two absolute menaces to society, one that's way too nonchalant, and one that just listens and nods along to whatever their friends are saying.
Got the memo? Hope you did.
Hi, I'm Lynx Greengrass, nice to meet you.
I don't usually record my experiences, but sometimes, I just feel a little proud of myself, to the point where I just want to... Do so. And one of the older girls in my common room, gave all of us these books to write in as a gift to welcome us.
My parents haven't sent me a single letter, can't expect one from my younger brother either. The only time I'll ever get a letter, is for some sort of fancy event I'm forced to go to. Being a part of a Pureblood supremacist family, is not fun. Not at ALL. And when you're friends with muggles? The threat is right there. Another Pureblood supremacist from Slytherin? They're willing to snitch on you for a buck and respect from your parents, and possibly their own. Since it's so hard to earn.
And you might be surprised to know, I was sorted into Gryffindor. Gryffindor! The house of the reckless, foolish, arrogant idiots! Look, as much as I like the few girls I've befriended, the house in general is NOT it. I mean, I wouldn't voluntarily be in Slytherin, but to be sorted into Gryffindor? Yeah, no, that's not okay.
I was practically begging for Ravenclaw. It's not like I'm incapable of being one. I'm really smart. I'm pretty witty. And I.. Enjoy studying. So why, why would I be in Gryffindor? What, I'm brave? I'm a leader? Sure I am. It's pathetic. And since I have to deal with the four nuisances that call themselves 'best mates', even though the year began only two months ago, I'm in a worse predicament.
One thing I can count positively, though, is this girl I met when we came to the Gryffindor common room for the first time after the sorting ceremony. Her name is Lily Evans, and she's honestly really kind. I was a little scared to befriend a muggle. I thought muggles would repulse at the thought of our kind, like the way mine does to them, but, they're very much better than what I was taught to believe.
And, she's very capable too. She's a wonderful witch, Lily. I can truly appreciate that about her, it's sweet. But I will say, I question her choice in friends.. Particularly that boy, Severus, from Slytherin. He is quite good at potions, I must admit, but the company he keeps is shady. I mean, Mulciber? He's in the same year as us, and already really really creepy. But who am I to question, I guess..
All my classes have gone splendid so far. Professor Flitwick, our Charms professor, is so unreasonably kind! He's very fond of me. And, the head teacher of our house, Professor McGonagall, is truly entertaining. I adore her teaching methods. Before I came to Hogwarts, I read quite a few transfiguration books, and they were all so boring. But when she was teaching, it felt far more loveable. And, I aced that class too. The look on her face, the stoic, definitely showed surprise. And I admire myself for that.
I have much hope for the upcoming year, except for winter holidays. Going home sounds like hell, now. As much as I hate to admit, I've grown... Quite fond of those boys. Though, they're nuisances, they're... Entertaining. Something I've never seen at home. All I've felt there is pressure, and being scared of being a disappointment. I can never truly bear the weight.
Oh I realize now, I never mentioned their names.
Remus Lupin, the sanest one of them all, he's not all bad, just.. A little out of place.
Peter Pettigrew, he's a follower, I can tell. I mean, literally, he always follows them around like a lost puppy.
It's almost funny.
James Potter, that one, right there, Lily HATES. But can you blame her? He's a right pain! He's so undeniably annoying, it's scary.
But oh, do NOT get me started on Sirius Black. I know the Blacks, of course, they're an ancient family, aren't they? So are mine. But he is NOTHING like them, you might think that's a good thing, and in a way, it is. But he is SUCH a troublemaker and SUCH an annoyance, you simply can't feel positive emotions towards him.
To sum it up? Lupin is okay, Pettigrew is weird, Potter is annoying... And Black is a git.
This however, was just a starting page. Wait until I start writing about my conversations and interactions everyday, it's simply whimsical!
But I suppose for now, that's enough. I have lots of homework to do, and only 2 weeks left to complete them. I have to complete homework for 3 subjects in 2 hours, then revise all the subjects we've been doing, do practicals, read, do practicals, read, revise, rinse and repeat until two weeks is over. What can I say? Expectations are high.
