Marco betrayed us exactly one month ago. I didn't expect it...no one did. He was my best friend. We have known each other since we were both ten years old. We met in an outdoor market, the sun was bright and the colors vibrant. He is an orphan and was running a booth to make money. Even at the young age of ten everyone in the kingdom knew he had a knack for making knives. My father was going to buy one and I begged him to let me come along.

I remember us as kids playing together. Our favorite place was a small pond right outside of my homes boundary lines. Even now at the age of seventeen we would still go to it and swim in its cool refreshing waters. But everything is different now.

Marco is leading the evil army on a quest for power.

I'm considered rich in this modern world of Ryab. I live in the kingdom of Rhev. My father is a knight. We have enough money to support ourselves and more. My father liked to be flashy. He always has to have the best items to brag to his friends. I love him anyway.

My mother died when I was eleven. She had lung cancer that was too bad for the best of our healers.  I miss her every day.

I have two brothers, Cam and Carr. Carr is eighteen and Cam is sixteen they are both my best friends. I know it’s kind of lame to have your brothers be your best friends but I know they will always be there for me and they are way protective over me.

"Cassie, get up!" I heard Cam call up the stairs. I groaned and rolled out of bed. Today was an important day for my family. My family would be making the ten hour journey to the Kings land. Every good soldier and leader would be. My father said it was just because they were all going to be honored but I know the real reason. They wanted to discuss battle strategy.

I put on a silk dress that was sadly made for me. I hate dresses. They are long and annoying and I always trip over them. Having "Grace" and "Poise" like I was supposed to was hard. Everyone expected me to do what I was told and be a lady but I hate it.

When I looked in the mirror I laughed. Whoever said girls wake up looking perfect was a liar. My long black hair was in knots and my eyes had sad large bags under them from loss of sleep. It’s not my fault I haven't been able to sleep since Marco betrayed us.

I slipped on my favorite pair of boots. If anyone besides my brothers saw me wearing them, they would faint. My dress covers them and they are comfortable so whatever.

It’s not like women have no rights, in fact we do. We are able to do anything the man can do. But just I do not have rights. My father wants me to be daddy's little girl but that's truly not me. I love fighting with my brothers and I was the best tree climber in the family, a fact that I am very proud of.

My door suddenly opened and I turned to see Carr leaning on my door frame with a lazy smile on his face. Carr has my mother’s brown hair and hazel eyes.  Everyone says that he is the most eligible bachelor in the land, when we are out in public girls and falling over him. He is cocky in that department.

"I almost forgot you were a girl but then I remembered when you took a year to get ready." Carr said

"Well, at least I don't take an hour on my hair alone." I said and messed up his hair.

"Hey! It takes time to look this good." He swatted my hand away and ran to the nearest mirror to fix his hair.

"You guys having a sibling meeting without me?" Cam said and walked into my room. Cam has black hair like me and hazel eyes like the rest of my family. I am the only one out of my siblings to get my mother’s bright green eyes.
