"I'm not... done yet... So don't think... I'm giving up. ... I-.. I will say this here and now... I won't ever stop fighting,... so don't even think for a second you've won.."

...

The book closed with a small thud, so the pages were once again squished together like a sandwich between the hard covers.

The title of the book read ‘History of Xinale.’

The person who just closed the book was a man named Lan Zhan, courtesy name Lan Wanji, he is currently 16 years old, and he was known as the second Jade of Gusu, with his elder brother Lan Xichen, aged 19, being the first Jade.

Lan Wanji was currently in the large library inside the Gusu sects main pavilion as after a lesson on gods and history he got curious on the fall of the Kingdom of Xianle. The kingdom is said to have fallen at the hands of a calamity level ghost and was never truly rebuilt even 900 years after it fell.

The only reason he stopped reading it and closed the book as it was because he had to go back to the lectures since his free time was up and it was one of his sects many rules to be on time.

The wall of rules contained about 3000 different rules and Lan Wanji made sure he memorised all of them heart by heart and applied all of them in his everyday life. So, by his sect's standards he was the perfect example of how a Lan should behave.

It also helped that he was the second heir to be sect leader as Lan Xichen was next in line, but he wasn’t old enough yet. So, their uncle from their father’s side was currently sect leader until the time came when he would pass on the mantle.

Since the Gusu sects had so many rules, so much discipline and so much knowledge they held lectures every year for sect heirs and their head disciples. This applied to all sects and once a year for 4 months they would be taught discipline, training and the rules that they would need to abide by whilst there.

Even though they were from different sects, once they had gotten the rules learnt they could apply them to themselves and their behaviour back at home so they would become good leaders when they became heads of their sect.

This year’s lectures were no different and Lan Zhan headed back to the building where his uncle led the lectures, where he was joined by the Jiang sect, Jin sect, Nie sect, Yao sect, and others.

There were a lot of sects, but most were branches from the main five. The main ones were the Jiang’s, the Jin’s, the Nie’s, the Lan’s and the Wen’s. But the latter never came to the lectures and hadn’t for the last few decades.

It wasn’t a problem as they could make their own decisions all they wanted just like everyone else could. It was just a problem when their current sect leader Wen Rhuohan became chief cultivator, and he acted like a monarch.

It was more or less fine, and he was mainly they're because of the size of his sect since he basically absorbed sects to grow in size. Also, he hadn’t done anything yet so no one could really go against him without proper reason.

The Lan’s could go against the Wen’s if something didn’t happen as they may be smaller, but they make up for quantity with quality, but they are righteous and will always strive to find out the truth before doing anything. So as much as they can, they won’t without reason.

It was good that they didn’t abuse their power, but otherwise it was annoying, and the other sects weren’t a fan of waiting until after it’s happened to act.

In the lectures Lan Qiren, current sect leader for the Lan’s, would explain a number of topics, but mainly about the gods each of the sects worshipped as they were significant to each since, they all had different gods.
